How amazing is it that he's alive and walking after hitting a stopped vehicle going 90 miles per hour

You act like I'm promoting letting the kid off free. I said that he needs to pay restitution and go speak to young kids about the dangers of DUI. Which do you think would be better for society? What good is he in prison? He'd just be sitting around costing us money in prison, and learning from some very bad people. Out of prison he could help pay for his crime.

There’s a thing called punishment. Paying restitution and talking to kids about DUI, on our dime isn’t harsh enough. Sometimes, people need to learn that there are consequences for stupidity. Understand that he KILLED two people. Prison for 2-3 years + 2 years probation and no license until probation is over. There is no price for life, but he should cover all costs, including costs for him to stay in prison. There is a delicate balance between not ruining his life, but justice being served. There are no correct answers. He should not be allowed to drive until 21, at least.

For one, he shoved the Brambletts' SUV forward as it absorbed some of the energy, plus he hit their vehicle slightly off center and at an angle (instead of directly into their rear), which probably helped him, but, IMO, was what caused the Brambletts both to die.

He is off the streets. Exactly how much of a deterrent is...

it won't matter. the "legalize now" crowd will still deny that toking is harmful in any way

And the "keep it illegal crowd" will make astonishingly hypocritical post on message boards. Like your post

Or are you in favor of making alcohol illegal? Because if automobile deaths actually meant shite to you, you would be pushing for alcohol to be banned.

Alcohol realated drunk driving:
11,000 deaths a year.
30 people every day

So get off your hypocritical high horse and if any of the keep it illegal crowd wants to talk about why driving under the influence is a reason to make something illegal, let's talk

Um, what? Laws dont prevent people from breaking rules

Um, what? They sure as hell prevent the convicted murderer from killing someone else.

Then point he was making...which should have been obvious...is that laws exist to protect society.

And what, exactly, should said parents do? Lock their 16 year old child in his room his every waking hour? How can the parents control what the kid does when he leaves the house to go to school? Since school teachers and administrators then legally act "in loco parentis", are you also saying that if a kid gets high while on his way to or at school, all school officials should also be held accountable?

It should have been obvious, but there are a ton of people nowadays that don't have any sense of moral being.

How much restitution? How much are the lives of the two people he needlessly killed worth?

Okay, send him to prison. It’ll cost us taxpayers about $30,000 per year. How many years do you want him there? When he’s released he won’t be able to find a job, so he’ll need to be on social welfare. Plus he will have spent his prison term around hardened criminals, and that has to rub off, so he’ll be more likely to return. Is that your solution?

Is there oxygen on your planet? He should cover the cost of his prison? Where does that happen? Where will he get the money IF HE’S IN PRISON?! He should be sentenced to work and house arrest and made to pay the family, not the government.

At least while he is prison we know he won’t be ramming into others with a vehicle.

Let's see, he killed two people. So at least 30 or 40 years sounds about right. I'd prefer he never get out, but that's just me.
