Has anything come out to say why this guy did this?
Besides being a gump?

When he called Finebaum's show on January 27th, he claimed that when he was living in Texas in the early 80s, a friend from Birmingham sent him a newspaper clipping showing pictures of Auburn students rolling the trees in celebration of the death of Bear Bryant and that he did it because of that.

Problem is:
1) There was no public celebration of Bear's death in Auburn, much less a rolling of the Toomer's trees
2) The trees themselves were not really targeted until the late 80s - up until then it was electric lines, light poles, traffic light wires
3) Even if the trees had been rolled then, why wait until now to do something about it?

I think 1+2+3 = Guy was a lunatic Bamatard who got pissed that AU matched his beloved Tide's 2009 accomplishments in 2010 and then got extra pissed with the bit of ribbing Auburn fans gave the Bama folks by taping the Cam Newton jersey, etc. to the Bear statue and so he decided to go all in and take out the trees.

yeah, I thought the last straw for him was the Cam Jersey on the Bear statue

Doesn't matter tho... whatever his motivation he stepped way over the line

as with only two places close by to get this chemical
Something I read yesterday (I thin it was posted here) is that the guy he was renting from does something with pipeline maintenence across the southeast. If so, that company would have access to the chemical and not neccesarily have to get it from one of the two places mentioned. They could either deal with a different supplier or get it direct from Dow Agri.

All messageboard chatter, so tifwiw.
