1. This is the one job I've always worried about Petrino leaving for.

2. Gus Malzahn is our best chance to continue to be successful and we would be in the news nonstop.

"Top notch assistant in the country goes home to coach his homestate schools."

ESPiN would be all over it.

i don't get whats so funny, were in the BCS bowl this year which means it can be done, the only step ups would be other SEC schools with NCs.

Harbaugh is a pretty big name coach this year, he turned stanford into a pretty competitive program in the Pac 10 runs a good offense and defense, I'd like to see what he can do here.

I'm not questioning his big name status, there's just no way he goes to Arky IMO. He's gonna be in the NFL in the near future.

yea thats my feeling about it too, but i was throwing a hypothetical name out. I kinda would hope we give Paul petrino a chance really, he seems like a good OC that never gets credit because of bobby, plus no need to learn new schemes.

On July 13, 2006, Petrino signed a 10-year, $25.6 million contract with Louisville to stay on as head football coach. The deal gave Petrino a raise from $1 million to $1.6 million annually, and he would have been paid $2.6 million in the final year of the deal. The contract was an effort by the university to put an end to the annual wooing of its football coach. During his tenure at Louisville, Petrino talked with Auburn, LSU, and the NFL's Oakland Raiders before finally leaving the Cardinals in January 2007 to accept an offer from the NFL's Atlanta Falcons. On December 11, 2007, Petrino resigned as head coach of Atlanta Falcons and took the head coaching position at the University of Arkansas.[3]

I'll add this.....

You knew this when you hired him.

Better?

No, I'm not worried much. Florida was nothing until a great coach made it what it is today. Petrino can do that at Arkansas. He is not a money whore and no doubt Fayetteville/NWA is much more beautiful than Gainesville. I think Petrino loves it here.

I hope I'm not wrong b/c I love Petrino (no homo). We have defended him since he got here when the rest of the country spewed vitriol. STFA from our coach you frickers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hell yes I am nervous, there are only a couple of jobs I truly believe would be a logical job step up, Hell Id take the Florida job LOL.

Only a couple? Jobs that are a step-up from Arkansas:

USC
Oregon
Texas
Oklahoma
Nebraska
Ohio State
Notre Dame
Michigan
Tennessee
Florida
Alabama
LSU
Auburn
Georgia

That's when you count all of the relevant factors (money, exposure, recruitability, etc). Don't be like "OMG MIGHIGAN?!?!" or "Notre Dame?!" just because they're in a highly uncharacteristic slump.

Face it, most teams are a part of football's middle class. There are a few powerhouses (among others Alabama, Ohio State, Texas - despite what happened this season), a few omgwtfs (Iowa State, Baylor, and others), and then a gigantic heap of teams that fluctuate pretty regularly from good to bad. Arkansas is definitely a part of that group.

Bobby Petrino is known as a program re-builder. If Florida wants BP then he can get BP.

1) Are you nervous re: Petrino to Florida?

No. Long has suppose to have been preparing for this possibility or a similar possibility for the last year. If he screws it up it is just more ammo to be used to get his arse and Opie fired.

2) Who would your top candidate to replace him be?

Gus will be offered a chance to interview, if Long does his ACC tour routine again there is not telling who the person in charge after he is relieved of his duties goes after first.

So if we hire him tomorrow would LSU just make the BCS or win a National Championship before he left?

I think you are mistaken. Florida>>>Arkansas in football talent. It's not even close. That alone would be a reason to go.

1. Not worried right now

2. Gus Malzahn, known him since he was a HS coach in Arkansas, and he would be a great hire, and he is great recruiter.

They have been in a slump for 20+ years. Their time has passed.

Oh yeah, he hung the phone up on USC last year.

Well, we, with all our "crappy" talent, are in a BCS bowl and Florida is lucky they are in a bowl period...with all that Florida talent.
Kids want to play for winners. Arkansas keeps winning...they will come. Maybe not in droves but they will come. And the 2*'s and 3*'s will get coached up here and by the time they are juniors/seniors will be playing with and beating 4 and 5*'s that are not coached properly (e.g. Texas and Florida this year).
