Mike Leach would be good for Arky. The guy was 84-43 at TTU, never had a losing season and took them to a Bowl game every year.

I don't think he's sound enough as a coach, nor does he have the recruiting prowess to run a big boy program. He'll always overachieve at a fledgling program where expectations aren't very high, but he's just too risky to be given the reigns to an SEC program with championship aspirations.

You need hard nose defense and a very good ground game to win the west...no gimmicks.

I like Mike Leach a lot and offensively, he's a really good coach but but just like Petrino, he's always appeared to neglect the defensive side of the game. Some A&M fans contend that he doesn't really recruit effectively on defense and they just may be right. If he could allow a good defensive coordinator to do this, I wouldn't have a problem with him, otherwise it would be futile to hire someone like that.

I would take Leach in a heartbeat over Charlie Strong. Hire a good DC. He has strong ties in Texas and then he would also have the SEC States to recruit from.

If I were Long I'd throw a number at Dana Holgerson that WV would never match and make him turn us down. Arky's success was built on a great offensive scheme that exploited defensive weaknesses. If Dana can put up 450+ yards on LSU's D then he can probably get 600 against most of the sec. Recruiting talented under the radar skill players is arky's tradition, so as long as the coaching is there you can continue that. The goal should be to remain competitive with LSU and bama, and take the rest of the sec to the woodshed on a regular basis by essentially outcoaching them, which can damn sure be done. If Dana says no I'd be looking at June Jones and MAYBE Chris Peterson. G.Patterson is the only defensive coach I'd call.

I'm not sure this is wrong. We aren't going to out-bama bama. And we damned sure aren't going to go head to head on a consistent basis against Bama and LSU for those huge defensive monsters that they seem to get. Our best possible source of getting those types of players is in Texas, where we have to take the leftovers of Texas, OU, and probably TAMU.

Holgerson would be fun to watch, and I'd damn sure enjoy throwing down 70 on a few teams

That would work if Mike Leach would let it work but I also agree with ezrulz and DocHog re: Holgorson. At least we should make him an offer IMO.

Just because you give a guy with two 7-6 seasons under his belt $4M a year, that won't turn him into a great coach. You're giving a 7-6 coach $4M a year, which is crazy.

Bingo. Strong has done absolutely nothing to warrant top 10 money. But then again, money does not really seem to be an issue anymore these days.

I agree. I like Strong but I'm afraid he's not quite ready as a head coach in the SEC. In a few years, he might be, but not now. It's brutal.

Deat Hogvillian Nation,

Can we please table all this "new coach" talk and discussion while we enjoy the epiciticy of the Arkansasian Karmatic Meltdown. These events only occur every few years and we need to stop , smell the pig trough and enjoy the time at hand.

Thanks in advance,

Your CrowPielian Nightmare

I've always thought you were a good poster, Monti. Who would be your first choices for Arkansas to look at?

From what I've heard Strong will listen to Arky but will not leave UL for now. TIFWIW

I have a good connection to Charlie (one off) but I usually don't bother the guy much. If it gets down to the nitty gritty I will ask for you guys and let you know if the contact can and is willing to share.
