He was addressing the public. Same deal. He got what he wanted. A response from the media and AU fans. At some point, he will have to account for all of the media buzz he creates by his "off" comments.
I don't think people are upset that he said it, just that he is dumb enough to continue his banter with nothing to show for it. At what point will he no longer be amusing and just turn into Lane Kiffin

Auburn has had a little up time while we were going through a little down time lately, but look back at the series - Auburn is not invincible.

Yeah it's not even close to being the same deal. He was addressing donors and ticket holders in Springdale, AR. Coaches are always going to be more open in those scenarios. Those are the folks that pay the bills and he was playing directly to them and they ate it up. Smart move on his part because it probably got a couple of dollars added to the donation checks afterwards.
