Here is the reality: Auburn is the most like TAMU (minus your weird arse traditions) in the SEC. We're two of the most conservative schools in the country, we both live under a regime that favors the other state school, we both have strong military and ag histories.
But, TAMU came in and beat UAT, and liked that they were given headpats by the conference king at the time. Since then, they can't get enough of lumping themselves in with the champs.
I, for one, don't want a friendly rivalry with you weirdos, but the Bama boot licking is ridiculous.

No skirt hiding. I don't really give a damn who wins the Iron Bowl, but the OP asked who I'd prefer to win. A&M fans have a lot more in common (aside from the crystal footballs) historically with UA than Auburn.
