Are people honestly upset with the religion and football thing?

I can understand if everyone is just having fun, but it seems there are some on here who are actually pissed that a coach is trying to put religion into football. Auburn is not the only school to do that.

Well I am sure a lot of people are pissed about that. Auburn is a state run institution. Religion is not supposed to be involved unless voluntary.

I don't like it and never have but you're right its not just an Auburn thing and I am already bored by all the threads.

This plus it looks really bad that they are using it to get recruits. I think its low imo.

No my only problem I have ever had is the idea after a win when he claimed it was a God thing. God had nothing to do with those wins and it comes off tome as using God a a recruiting tool. It would be like Saban suddenly proclaiming the Gospel to land Rev Drew.

The word Jesus offends people more than almost any word you hear. People don't understand when people give glory to God or discuss God in the same sentence as football. You always hear "God doesn't care about football" and that is a complicated thing to explain. I don't hold it against them, they just simply don't understand.

You sure this hasn't happened?

It's pretty cheesy, but as long as you're fine with your program being Jesus Camp then go for it

Yes. It seems to be a cheap ploy

the Auburn staff are using the book Prometheus Rising, by Dr Robt Anton Wilson, Phd.
he explains exactly how to brainwash people.
using the circuits which true believers have imprinted with religion to imprint the team as family is actually brilliant.
Prometheus Rising is fun, accessible and important.
reasonable on Amazon.com in paperback
You will be surprised and delighted.
(and no, OF COURSE I dont actually know that Auburn is using that book.
But it is the playbook for that kind of thing. its the model they are following, whether they struck on it on their own or one of them read the book 10 years ago.

Like you or Chiz understands God...the fricking arrogance of saying something like that is what is offensive to everyone with a rational brain.
I can just see the Lord on high basking in the praise of football players all sweaty after a win...its the heighth of arrogance to assume the winners are more special/deserving in the eyes of the Lord.
Oh and BTW it didnt work out so well for the Lord in the Old Testament when He and his followers came across a tribe with 'chariots of iron'. They got that arse whooped.

to be fair if the recruit doesnt like it he doesnt have to commit.

No he doesn't, but why is he put in that position in the first place when visiting a state run institution?

Auburn has clearly unsettled the Jews as God's "Chosen People." IMO

The ONLY part about it that bothers me is that it appears they are using it as an opportunity to influence recruits.

This is the wrong forum for this....
- If you are religious/spiritual then you probably don't have an issue with it
- If you are not, then you think church and state need to be separated
It takes on a football twist when the two topics bleed together.
I personally am not religious....but if Chizik and the coaches foster that kind of environment at school and in the program (with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the like), I am fine with it. Again, not my cup of tea, but to each his own. As long as they are maintaining a moral, family atmosphere there and not condoning bad bahavior concurrent to their preaching, fine by me.
Now, I think the issue of pushing Jesus vs. some other deity in a mixed forum is yet another concern. But I can't speak to what the demographics of the kids are anyway.
