Thanks for making my point. You saw the hand writing was on the wall for that "superior" football conference. Why didn't you go to the Big 12? All of your familiar/traditional rivals went that direction.

Nothing against Arky. Just no connection whatsoever.

It is a shame because I have a lot of respect for your football program. Just cannot (at nearly the age of FIFY) ever see Arky as anything but a SWC team. However, I do recognize that younger fans will eventually see them as our rival (just like I see Tulane and Ole Miss that way).

Texas was suppose to come to the SEC with us, but the state legislature told them they could not.

In one of Broyles last decent decisions made he saw the writing on the wall and left Texas behind. It was confirmed to him after the Big12 that the SWC was destined to collapse and had Arkansas stayed we would have been on the outside looking in during the conference realignment.

We originally had the choice between joining the SEC or what became the SWC but included OU and Okie State at that time, apparently it was a tough decision based on how different, culturally, Arkansas was from Texas/Oklahoma, yet how Arkansas was able to "identify" with them better than the other southern states...

I don't think "older" fans of Arkansas or LSU are really looking for a rivalry between the schools. However, I do believe that the SEC is trying to foster one.

Bottom line, and we all have to agree, over time the distinction between the SWC and SEC will blur and younger fans of both teams will see this as our natural rivalry. But older fans like you and I will not. That is okay. We still both play a great brand of football that is exciting to watch.

I think eventually, LSU/Arkansas will be a huge rivalry.
