They should have just scheduled a Bama-LSU championship game for the next 1000 years and forgotten about all the trouble pretending to include lesser teams.

For the time being it might look that way. Nothing lasts forever in football. Would you have said in 1997 are Florida and Tennessee are destined to meet each other in the playoffs every year? it looked that way. How about UGA and AU in 1983? It looked that way with UGA winning 3 straight SEC's and playing for the Natty 2 of 3 years and outside shot at the 81 title on New Years day. How about Nebraska and Florida State circa 1987 to 1995? It looked that way then but not today.
Now UT is maybe a minor bowl team and Florida, while good isn't nearly the team they were under Spurrier and Meyer. Same with AU...right now but it could change tomorrow in the world of football. No team stays on top forever So....no, it will not be Bama and LSU. Not every year.
Solid post.

IF LSU is #4 and Bama #5, and LSU has won the SEC Championship, I fully expect the selection committee to pick Bama ahead of LSU

Bama is just that good!

Once the playoffs start, are we going to always end up playing each other for the championship? Is there a rule that prohibits teams from the same conference from playing each other in the semis? We'd have to play each other in the semis to prevent the matchup in the championship game more than 5 out of 10 years.

This is going to sound even more ridiculous once OM beats your arse this fall, lulz

The fact that Bama has been in position to be in the National Championship game 3 out of 4 years (really 4 out of 5 if we look at the 2008 undefeated regular season and #1 vs #2 matchup with Florida) makes them dominant.

The main point is that they were not in the position to play in the NCG but somehow due to the media and crying nick saban on national tv, they get to play in the NCG even when they dont win their conference and get to play a team they already lost to at home in a conference game. And 2011 Bama was way better than 2012. Bama also had to get extremely lucky in 2012 after losing at home. Bama has been extremely lucky to be in the position to play in the last 2 NCG but made the most of the opportunities

like how you imply that LSU is anywhere remotely as dominant a program as Bama.

I didn't imply they were on the same level, I proved it. I proved it with a comparison between Bama's recent achievements and LSU's recent achievements, which are about as close as they could be since the turn of the century.

If it wasn't for a once in a lifetime fluke by Bama getting to the BCS C.G. after losing to LSU in the regular season, LSU would have just as many BCS Championships if not more.

In all likelihood, LSU has just passed up Bama in offensive recruiting by adding the best qualified offensive coordinator in the SEC. It may not show up immediately, but Cameron's effect on LSU is going to be huge.

2011 Bama was a great fricking team. I have no clue how we beat them, especially in Tuscaloosa. They were much better than us. But last year, we fricked ourselves over like Bama in 2011. There's no doubt LSU was the better team on 11-5-12, but Bama capatilized on every opportunity, and pulled it out. All these Bama teams are great teams, but Bama is hardly as dominant as 3/4 would lead you to beleive. They are an inch away on an OSU feild goal from not being in the 2011 game. I don't think they were the best team in college football last year, by years end it was A&M no doubt IMO.... But the fact is, they've taken advantage of everything they've been given, and when other teams lose, they take advantage. They may not be as dominant as 3/4 sounds, but they deserved all 3.

In the format we have now, it takes a lot of luck to win a National Championship....you really have to have things go your way

Alabama has definitely benefited from a Colt McCoy injury and a beauty contest with Oklahoma State '11

But that's how its always been...hell, LSU had 2 losses in '07 and still made it. USC got voted co-champs in '03, but Auburn got squat in '04! USC '05 was being considered the best team EVER, until Vince Young ended that illusion...Notre Dame had the best defense last year according to the media, but then the illusion was broken when Alabama tore it to pieces

College football's postseason has always been a jagged unfair road...the coming playoff will start putting things right

Actually, I chose 1999 because that was the last year Bama won the SEC West title before Saban resurected your Crimson Tide from the ash heap of second tier SEC programs.

I guess you would be happier if I had stayed with the last decade of achievements: LSU's 5 divisional titles and Bama's 3 divisional titles. But that doesn't make Bama sound so dominate either; does it?

This is so spot on. The only thing you can do is win all your games, but even then Auburn fans will tell you, that doesn't mean shite.... Still cannot beleive they didn't get anything for that...

If LSU is not on Bama's level, what college football programs are on their level?

Florida

Your Florida is on its way back, very similar to TAM in overall talent and in-state recruiting base. When Pease gets enough talent for his new offense, the Gators will be back.

But then again, Bama trumps both of your programs as long as Florida and LSU keep playing an elimination game each and every year while Bama watches from the sidelines.

How long are you going to let Bama and the rest of the SEC permanently handicap your teams for divisional titles?

It blows my mind that these teams have been great for a few years and think they're hot poo. Bama is amazing right now, but it's not going to last forever. And LSU... you guys beat them one time in the worst game of all time. And should have lost to a 3-9 AU team last year if we caught one punt. haha, spare me.

As long as Saban can recruit on a national level and bring in top 5 classes, Bama will be great, and as long as Miles keeps his great coaching staff and a fence around his in-state talent, LSU will be great.

Auburn doesn't have the regional or national recruiting program to match Saban or Miles. Your War Eagles can play spoiler on the years you have rebuilt. But Bama, LSU, and TAM will be reloading each and every year--similar to my Buckeyes with Meyer.

LSU needs to rebuild after losing 9 starters on defense from last year. It will be interesting to see how your War Eagles do against a rebuilding LSU defense this year. Go get them War Eagle.

I wonder how Auburn '10 would have fared in a rematch with Alabama...

Do you think it would have been fair to go play the SEC Championship as the #1 team in the country while your opponent that you beat got to sit home and scout you?

In a playoff, maybe LSU and Alabama would have made it to the championship, but Alabama would have had to earn their way in instead of winning a beauty contest...

Bama since 2000:
2000 - 3/8
2001 - 7/5
2002 - 10/3
2003 - 4/9
2004 - 6/6
2005 - 10/2 (wins vacated)
2006 - 6/7 (wins vacated)
2007 - 7/6
2008 - 12/2
2009 - 14/0
2010 - 10/3
2011 - 12/1
2012 - 13/1

3 National Championships

LSU since 2000:
2000 - 8/4
2001 - 10/3
2002 - 8/5
2003 - 13/1
2004 - 9/3
2005 - 11/2
2006 - 11/2
2007 - 12/2
2008 - 8/5
2009 - 9/4
2010 - 11/2
2011 - 13/1
2012 - 10/3

2 National Championships

Do you want me to include Auburns?

Bama and LSU are pretty amazing right now, with Bama holding an edge over LSU over the last few years. Overall, we have both dominated Auburn in the same time period. Don't fricking bring up your bullshite. Bama was already a very storied and historically great football program and now LSU has cemented itself in that same category. All Auburn has going for it is the possibility that Cam Newton has a son out of wedlock, grows up without a dad, fights everyone his whole way up through school, gets tough, plays football, and auctions himself into Auburn in 18 years.
