I lived in Alabama for 20 years and work in a B2B service industry that puts me in blue-collar environments frequently. I'm not going overboard. This is exactly how it is. Having a bigger fanbase is like 80% good news and 20% bad news. It's a problem most of us would like to have. I wouldn't have even brought it up had I not stumbled across that guy...and maybe we are talking about 2 different things. I'm not talking about a truck with mud all over it, flying a rebel flag type redneck. I'm just talking Alabama blue-collar folks that put a little too much emphasis on Alabama football and never attended college anywhere, let alone in Tuscaloosa.

I like how South Florida (Charlie Strong) is ranked above t.u. (Who shouldn't be ranked to begin with)

and an obvious statement that Charlie was a game mgmt nightmare.

Is that why his team is ranked 4 spots above your team?

Auburn fans really do believe they don't have this exact same category of fans

Most Aubs I know that like the NFL are Raiders or Panthers fans because of former players. I'm sure this is entirely more justifiable than a long time Alabama resident liking Bama football

I probably agree with DD. We clearly have a bigger share of that member of the population. It doesn't mean Auburn doesn't have any or that no Alabama fans went to Alabama, but we definitely have a bigger fan base and that means more of the football only sidewalk fans.

And some of those are normal, hard working folks who may have even gone to another school. And some are the typical stereotype of a loud, obnoxious Bammer.

What's funny is when Auburn folks act like they don't have these people too. We have more, but they most certainly aren't far and few between at Auburn.

Every year John Wilner has the worst polls, and for some reason he always continues to get a vote.

You mean to tell me that Notre Dame is not in the preseason AP top 25? Has this ever happened? It doesn't matter how bad they are the year before, they normally always have a spot in the preseason AP top 25. I don't think I have seen LSU outside of the top 10 since before Saban. There not to high on O either

Pat Dooley of the Gainesville Sun voted tOSU #1 and Okie State #2. Why?

Because Big Game Bob retired

Bob was 14-4 against the Pokes. Pre-Bob, OU was 72-14-7. So Bob's winning % was actually lower.

Maybe Lincoln Riley will only be 14-6 the time he retires.

I don't disagree with anything you said. There are other factors too. There are many universities in Alabama, and some don't have football teams. UAH for example, and then some have teams but not in division 1 or fbs,(can never remember what they call it these days) because of the culture in Alabama and in order to fit in many want to choose a team they see on tv every Saturday, their choices are Alabama and Auburn, in state. Of course most people will choose Bama who don't really have a dog in the fight. The kids who grow up here tend to pull for whoever their dad pulls for. I have a cousin who Dad was an Auburn alumn, and she ended up going to Bama for a while but was still an Auburn fan and still is. You may have lived here for 20 years, but being a kid on the playground in Alabama is where the Iron Bowl rivalry is the most intense. Some never outgrow it, either.
