My dad would send me to the store at the end of our street to get him cigarettes too. And I'd get on my bicycle and peddle down there--and like you, I was about 10. I know my dad would call and tell the owner I was on my way but the man would almost always say something like, "that gonna be enough to get ya through the week?" or some kinda wise crack and I'd have to tell him they're for my dad...almost every time!
