Anyone else ever done this?

Auburn is having tryouts to make an all male basketball team that serves as the practice squad for the women's basketball team. I've heard that its pretty fun, you get some free shite, and you get to play basketball in the new arena here. I've been thinking about trying out because it sounds kinda cool except for the fact that I'll probably get my shite wrecked by a bunch girls weekly.
I've heard that they do something similar at other SEC schools. Anyone ever tried it. Experiences? Thoughts?

You could field several all male student teams to work the women I would think

Dont do it. Let them get better by practicing against themselves. And no more male coaches either.

I've always thought I could walk on any college rec center and find five guys that could beat Connecticut's women's team.... with a little coaching, I'd imagine any good JV boys bball team could handle them.

This is probably true.
A guy I know did it at Vanderbilt when they won the SEC a few years ago and actually got a ring for it, he sold it. I doubt he got much for it, though

UK did this years ago. Don't know if they still do. FWIW they were horrible then.

Yea I think I'm going to go to the try-out just for the hell of it and to see what its about. If its too time consuming then I'm out.

Probably true, so it would make the women's team better if the style of play was not too different.
My junior year at AU, the five guys I played intramurals with, made it to the intramural championship game. We had two former JUCO players and a guy that walked on at AU our freshman year, but didn't make it. Lot of good players that played organized ball for years on some of those intramural teams.

I knew three guys who did this at Duke. One was let go because he had a shitty attitude and didn't make it to a lot of practices. I'm not surprised. He was a jackass.
I think they all played varsity basketball in high school and one had offers to come play at D-3 and MAAC level programs. The games were apparently pretty close.
They were going up against a team that made 2 or 3 Final Fours and had some WNBA players though.

my roommate and a bunch of my friends did that and are/were managers for the girls team the past few years. It is a lot of work because you have to be at almost every practice including early in the mornings occasionally. you dont have to be there for the whole practice.
they only run the plays of the team they will be facing in the next game, there is very little straight up scrimmaging because coach nell only wants them to see what they will see in the coming game.
They do get a lot of under armor stuff and free shoes and stuff like that.
You do have to pass the ncaa clearinghouse and pass a physical like all of the actual sports. I believe it may use up years of eligibility also (just in case you ever had the inclination to try and walk on a team while at Auburn lol)
They also really prefer you to have a lot off basketball experience to really understand several playbooks and defenses so they dont have to spend any time teaching you what you're supposed to be running before teaching the girls how to play against it.

Well as long as its not TOO much work I may be up for it. I thought it might e something fun to while also helping to stay in shape. I played 3 sports year-round in highschool and since I've gotten to college I haven't done jack shite and its kind of wearing on me. I've been itching to get out and be active but haven't been able to make myself yet.
I was a PG for my high school team (granted it was a small private school) and I feel like I have a pretty good grasp of playbooks and such so i figured what the hell I'll give it a shot. I wouldn't consider myself the greatest basketball player ever but I'm decent if I'm shooting well.
I've also been debating back and forth between doing stuff like this to keep myself active or actually gearing up and trying out for the baseball team. I got a few small college offers coming out of high school and figured I might get at least a look being a left-handed pitcher and all.
