Don't worry the Falcons will lose week 1 and then you will only have Bama to follow

That's kind of a disingenuous summation given the quality of a large portion of the posts from Bama fans in this thread.

Les is right, and he has established himself as a winner. What type of winner, though? I don't think he's elite these days, and that's his doing.

that was fairly well played
not in the slightest. mcelroy is saying that the CURRENT players at LSU are only successful because saban coached there for 4 years, 10 years ago.
that doesn't make ANY sense at all.
LSU could have completely tanked when saban left, but it didn't. like miles or not, he's only had 1 sub 9 win season in 10 years at LSU.

He wasn't out of line. He didn't attack Les personally in any way. He just gave his opinion on a football matter, which is what he is paid to do now.
Les wasn't out of line either, I just thought it was below him to respond to a media person, just like I think it is below Saban to do the same.
All in all, this is being made a much bigger deal than it actually is. Would have been better to just ignore it in my opinion, but hey I could be wrong. Wouldn't be the first time.

No, about GM on ESPN in general. There was a thread on the TR calling GM a douche homer and I couldn't figure out where that sentiment was coming from the little I've heard of his show. He's been the farthest thing from a Bama homer. I do think he's going out on a limb on quite a few of his picks. He seems to like Auburn, South Carolina, and Ole Miss the most.
P.S. The thread on TR calling GM a douche was because he mentioned South Carolina and Auburn but failed to mention LSU when asked who had the best offensive lines in the league. He also said that Saban had a lot to do with setting LSU for the success that Les has maintained so even his Saban/LSU comments are being taken out of context.

It was good/classy response. He could have handled it better, though. Just not acknowledging it at all.
You can look at it two ways:
1. Les was righteously offended and wanted to stand up for himself, which is completely justified.
or
2. He wanted to teach a young media personality something about accountability, and having to face a coach after you've said some critical words about him.
Personally, I think it's a mix of the two. For years, I've heard from all types of people how Les Miles never would have accomplished anything without Saban's recruits left over, and I'm just a fan. How much shite do you think Les has had to put up with?
Maybe Mac will think first before he sticks his foot in his mouth again.

well besides the whole "congrats on a great career" shot at him
Honestly, that may have been sincere, acknowledging how much success he had as Bama's starting QB, not a pot shot at his short-lived NFL career. I think it was more of a "i'll acknowledge your success in college football as a player, why are you so obtuse as to shite on mine as a coach" type of thing. It was definitely a smart-arse comment, but I don't think he was necessarily implying McElroy was a failure or anything.

So what are your standards for an elite coach? Sounds like Saban is the only one out there by your standards
