Jeff Traylor is a very underrated HC with the best of Texas ties, but I don't believe he's the real target for the A&M job.

Anyone know who Traylor's agent is? I wouldn't mind seeing who that agent's client list includes, could be a case of a smoke screen to prop up one client while keeping the heat off of the another client that is the real prospect.

He was Chad Morris’s AHC at Arky in 2018-2019.

Isn’t he head coach somewhere now?

Edit: HC at UTSA

UTSA. Back to back 11+ win seasons and a possibility of 11 wins this season if they win out.

Trace Armstrong is Traylor's agent. I'd be looking at his client list outside of Traylor, I doubt A&M is to cozy with Sexton after the fleecing he laid down on them with Jimbo.

Texas HS football legend that helped turn around recruiting classes for brand new coaches at certain schools due to his Texas ties.

He's done well at UTSA, and Texas fans adore him for single-handedly helping Strong get his recruiting classes off the mat, but he hasn't really shown his ability to win big yet imho.

Come on ColoradoAg, all you have to do is call Mack Brown and he’ll know the answer. We all know you are in constant communication with Mack and that you still get Christmas cards and cookies from Sally and Mack Brown.

One of the very few coachs NOT represented by Sexton. Might be the biggest checkpoint in his resume.

It’s one thing to win at UTSA against North Texas and the like.

Another to win in the SEC surrounded by 3 schools with a lot more tradition and very good recruiters.

In summary, the ags need to go bigger IMO.

Remember the song "If your gonna play in Texas, you gotta have a fiddle in the band"?

Jeff Traylor has the blessing of the Texas High School Coaches Association. "If your gonna recruit in Texas, you gotta have the blessing of the THSCA." Saban does, Jimbo didn't. In fact Jimbo went out of his way to ignore them.

Not smart.

Traylor is a long shot but Texas High School Coaches have given their blessing.

Who cares about the blessing of the HS coaches when you just buy your recruits outright?

Doesn't seem like jumbo had any recruiting issues whether he had their blessing or not.

Was that Jimbo’s problem? Didn’t/couldn’t recruit Texas enough? I don’t feel like that’s his problem.

Fair point.

But the HS coaches still matter—to a very influential extent. Some players (and their families) remain very influenced by their HS mentors. So if it comes down to a bidding war between Team A and Team B, it doesn’t hurt to have as many advocates in your corner as possible. Every advantage is huge.

Texas high school coaches get real on recruiting: College coaches they trust, Horns vs. Aggies and who’s invading the state - The Athletic (note: from a couple of years back)
quote:

Recruiting in Texas is just different. Everyone in the state will make sure that’s known. (Texas isn’t recognized for its modesty, after all.)

Texas’ 12 FBS programs are the most of any state. Nearly every Division I college football program recruits Texas in some form, but each region is different. What works in Houston might not work in West Texas. There are tens of thousands of players across more than 1,400 high schools, so college programs must be strategic. Every year, Texas is at or near the top of the list in producing college and NFL players.

The state is also unique for its power structure. The Texas High School Football Coaches Association is an influential and important group in Texas recruiting that has taken measures to make sure high school coaches remain the point of contact in players’ recruitments.

quote:

Which in-state school aside from Texas and Texas A&M does the best job of recruiting your players or the state of Texas?

Coach 4: Hands down, I have to say right now it’s UTSA. … Wherever Jeff (Traylor) has been, he’s always been connected to the high school coaches, because he was a high school coach himself. … When you can relate to every coach in this state, you’ve got an opportunity to get their kids.

Coach 19: UTSA and Houston with their sincere interest and aggressiveness. UH is not hesitating on offering guys they’re interested in and neither is UTSA.

quote:

Which college head coach in Texas do you trust the most?

Coach 4: Jeff Traylor, because I have a good relationship with him. Besides him, probably Matt Wells. I got to know him when he was at Utah State.

Coach 11: Jeff Traylor. He’s one of us. And he knows how to build relationships.

every hire is a crapshoot, so who knows how it works out. but if I were an Aggie I'd be extremely disappointed if it's really Traylor. i suspect this is a cover for Elko while contracts get ironed out

I think Traylor ends up at UH after Dana Holgorsen is fired at the end of the season.

But all of this buzz, even if it’s just that (noise), is definitely helping his stock go up.

I can understand that sentiment. The possibility of hiring Jeff Traylor definitely has supporters as well as a few detractors.

For the first time ever in a Texas A&M coaching search, I can wholeheartedly say I’m fine with just about anyone who has been rumored—with only a handful of exceptions … and thankfully, those names seem improbable.
