I bring this up because of the new stadium in Atlanta that looks to be the cream of the crop of stadiums in America.

It literally looks like an a-hole.

Several years ago the powers that be actually had plans to build a new stadium at the end of Convention Center Blvd and the Mississippi River across town from the Dome.

Here were the renderings (Top row, left two renderings)

If a new stadium was to be build it would probably have to be build outside of metro New Orleans, like Laplace, and that would take away the advantage of playing in the Dome. Everything is in walking distance and that reason alone makes it attractive for big events. You don't have to go 30-45 minutes to any events that may come with the event.

The Superdome does need to be replaced, but not with an open air stadium.

I brought this topic up because Baton Rouge is not that far from NOLA. Tiger Stadium is outdoors. Is there a huge difference in weather distance wise from NOLA to BR?

Of course not. The Superdome is a multi use facility. It's not just for football or sporting events. But the heat and weather of September thru mid October was a factor. Tiger Stadium was built originally in the late 1920's before domed stadiums and for decades, games were played there at night for the most part. Periodically you might get a day game but that was later in the season usually. This has changed quite a bit over the last 15 or so years.

However, I have been to "night" games early in the season where Tiger Stadium is frickin hotter than hell and it is quite miserable

As well, the NFL likes to have an indoor stadium for the Super Bowl as often as possible. Those played up north are few & far between. The rich big shots & their girl friends do not like to sit out doors in cold weather.
