I read, he yelled for help, but everyone thought he was playing. One person went after him, but couldn't make it back with him. Sounds like a cramp or a medical emergency.

Sounds like you want it to be a safe place to be an a-hole.

Here's what I could find and the body was found not that far from shore but it was in 25 feet of water. LINK. The Sheriff's report referenced in the story would undoubtedly have more information.

It seems as though there have been a lot of news stories over the years about athletes drowning but that could be because of their notoriety.

One time when I was at the ocean in FL a man was not very far from the bank calling for help but he could not make it to shore. In that case I have no doubt the undercurrent was the major problem. In his case he was fortunate as some jet skiers were close by and were able to rescue him.

Oh look another Arkansas fan being a complete a-hole about the vandy situation

Please don't lump this retard in with Arkansas fans.

The salinity of ocean water makes objects much more buoyant than in fresh water.

That's basic 3rd grade science project stuff.

Here's a guy that might have been in similar shape, swimming in the ocean, which was likely far more difficult, but made it to safety.

Actually swimming in the ocean is easier, salt water makes you more buoyant

This is what it's come to. I am now siding with KTown (and the OP, for that matter).

Rest of you can EAD. It was a legitimate question phrased appropriately.

Lakes are really dangerous. You get a cramp or pass out and go under the water it is so deep you're a gonner

It doesn't really make sense

I mean it doesn't if you haven't spent much time around lakes or rivers. It's real easy to underestimate the depth of a lake and the shite in the lake that you could easily get snagged on, effectively pulling you under.

And you don't have to be drunk to make those mistakes either.

Except for the fact that you typically don't have large waves pushing you under in a lake... So yes, calm waters the ocean is easier, it's rarely calm in the Atlantic.

And talking about a bad situation on a message board makes it worse?

Freak accidents happen all the time on water. I went to high school with a guy that was a lifeguard, jumped in off a non moving boat in a lake to chill on a tube, never came up till it was to late. Junped feet first, no trauma, not drunk, not suicidal, just didnt come back up for whatever reason. I've lived on a lake my whole life and still consider myself a strong swimmer and don't use a life jacket as often as I should. It's just much more dangerous than you think.Noone will likely ever know what happened. If your the praying type send good vibes to the family, if not then just keep the family in your thoughts. Promising Young man lost his life and that's never good.

Rip tides are deceptively dangerous

No such things in a lake. There are wakes from other boats, but no rip tides/currents.
