We're talking 15 years ago, not 50. You're telling me those Miami players wouldn't dominate today? All those players that had long NFL careers?

Dude, today's college athletes are X-men mutants compared to 15 years ago in terms of strength and speed.

Lamar Thomas?

1992 Alabama vs Miami?

I've heard a story like this before.

The athletes today are better than they were when I first started, and that was back in 06...let alone 01.

Advancement in training and technology is creating better athletes. It's not speculation. It's actual science dipshit lol

So I looked at combine results and compared 1999 to 2016 averages. Here's what I found:

40 times(of those who participated)
1999 - 4.82
2016 - 4.80

40 times(of top 100)
1999 - 4.50
2016 - 4.51

bench reps(of those who participated)
1999 - 20.5
2016 - 19.4

bench reps(of the top 100)
1999 - 25.64
2016 - 24.95

Now tell me again how much stronger and faster are today's college athletes comapred to 17 years ago?

i did the same but used a neutral site and Miami won all but 1 time. V the 2009 team though it was Bama 70%.

No way to tell...they might win but easily? This is the same Miami team that struggled that same year with both Boston College and Virginia Tech...they sure didn't win easily against either of those...

The '01 Miami team was great, but their renown comes primarily from all the players they had drafted in the NFL. They only beat one team in the top 10 that year, a not so good Nebraska team (finished #8, AP) in the BCS game who'd been whupped by Colorado in their last game 62-36 (NOTE: That Nebraska team was the first team to make it to the BCS Championship without winning their division). That Miami team may have had the most talent of any team, but that doesn't necessarily mean they were the best team of all time as many of the talking heads think...

In historic terms this Bama team iant elite. They have no one that could run with Winslow, no corner big enough to handle André Johnson, no cb fast enough for Santana moss and hurts would be having nightmares about Jonathan Vilma and Ed reed for the rest of his life.

That is one team that saban. Could just not take away the run against.

This pass rush could also be a great equalizer. It isn't like Miami blew everyone out that year. If they had an 11 and 12 point win versus teams ranked in the teens, then it isn't like that Miami team was unbeatable.

No. Alabama dominated LSU in every facet of the game. Should have scored 20+.

2001 Miami roster was batshit crazy. 6 All-Americans. They had a Maxwell trophy winner (Dorsey) and an Outland Trophy winner (McKinnie).

But get this, they had 17 first round draft picks off that team. Not 17 total NFL players, but 17 FIRST ROUNDERS. Most championship caliber teams would be lucky to have 17 total NFL players even at lower rounds.

They had 38 total NFL players drafted from the team. THIRTY-EIGHT.

Bammer has crazy professional talent on Saban's squads (the best paid squad in the country), but has any of his teams put out anywhere close to 38 NFL players? Maybe he has been close, I don't know.

They were badass no doubt about it. Hate these comparison arguments for the most part but I love this team we have.

A lot of teams in 2016 would beat 2001 Miami.

Better, faster, stronger players today compared to the game 15 years ago.

They should have 4 or 5 first rounders this year. I imagine when we look back this team will have an insane amount of guys drafted. That being said some of those 38 guys were underclassmen or not contributors yet so the total might not be as important as the positions of the starters and major contributors in that specific year.

Toss up, as long as it is not a Hurricanes home game.

Saban can't win in Miami.

It's like I didn't even provide real stats and facts to prove this isn't the case.

Just because you've upgraded your cellphone from 2001 doesn't mean the typical college football player is exponentially better today than 15 years ago.
