Are you guaranteeing a win Prof?

Yeah 2015 will very likely be the year people say, 'where the frick did they come from - suddenly they're good again??!' Well, unless they follow recruiting and the internal issues. It's going to be funny though because unless we truly surprise and go better than 6-6 this year (which is our baseline, imo) 2015 is going to take a lot of casual sports fans by surprise.

I can't really guarantee anything - things happen in football which is why we play the game but it's the only game I have a sense of certainty about in terms of feeling good about the outcome and it has nothing to do with disliking Vandy (I'm from the East so I don't really get the hate that goes on in Middle TN between Dores and Vols), but it does have to do with intuition and analysis based on looking at both teams situations. I feel very good about us going into that game.

In contrast, intuition told me that putting a bowl game on the shoulders of a true frosh with the way the rest of the team had been playing going into the game last year may not turn out well - that it was just too much to ask but we had no choice. Dread might be the right word for that one and a looming suspicion that we may well lose because of it.

Is this where Vandy fans talk shite about UT and actually have a point??

Wow, UT. That's embarrassing.

Yeah, we will either compete for the East or Butch isn't the man for the job. By 2015, our talent level will be as good or better than anyone in our division.

How many games this season do you think Tennessee will be the favorite?

Fair enough. I'll be interested to see if your opinion on Vandy changes as the season goes on, especially on defense. Both lines are bigger, deeper and likely more talented than either of the last 2 seasons. Inexperience at the skill positions is an obvious concern. But I've been really impressed with Coach Mason and his staff. With 23 redshirt freshmen coming in this year from a top 20 recruiting class and 61 of 66 of the current 3-deep returning in 2015, I think the reports of the death of Vandy football have been greatly exaggerated.

As of now probably 5. If mizzou isn't that good, we may be the favorite to win that game at home.

That would get Butch fired.

No way Butch is fired this year. Too much turnover in coaching lately. He could go 2-10 and not get fired, maybe even 0-12.

Vandy had a coach once, forget his name, but he was excellent at defense and back then he used redshirting for depth because the university was still a bit rigid about special admits. It's a method that works but often the way it was used by him meant you might have to skip being good one season to be good the next. Vandy's not in that position anymore but those redshirts will be valuable.

The problems I see for Vandy is they're also getting a brand new coach and system and way of doing things which can impact the normal benefit to a redshirt. IOW, the redshirt still has the body and athletic improvement but loses the knowledge aspect of things and has to learn things all over again. As for your D, there are a few players that are physically there for the 3-4 but the 3-4 is always difficult the first year (sometimes 2), even pro-teams experience that problem.

But feel free to pick my brain as the season goes on. I like Mason and I think he's going to build a good defense for Vandy but I don't know when it will really start to gel. I'm interested in seeing how the offense comes together - a lot of production lost there. Right now, I think your defense will rise before your offense - offense is going to be the main question mark over the long haul for Mason as I have no doubt he'll put together good D's.

Love these predictions of our demise. The rest of the SEC is ignoring us at their own peril.

8 days, baby. 8 days.

There is only one thing worse than being irrelevent for the majority of your history and that is being irrelevent right now. UK is the only thing close to a guaranteed in conference win for UT. You should beat Chattanooga, Arky State and most likely Utah State. 4-8 is not far fetched....at all.
