For the most part you're either white or black in East TN. Very little asian or hispanic populations to go with it.

Umm...have you been to Morristown? The Houston Chronicle and NYT both did articles on it because it has the fastest growing Latin@ population in the US. Knoxville and Morristown both have Asian populations (although I believe Morristown's has shrunk). Also, Knoxville has a sizable Middle Eastern population and even Coptic Christians.

And of course there are plenty of Greeks.

See...leave it to Mizzou fans to try and start causing trouble in this thread and try and take it off topic. Joining the Gators in history revisionism, which is still a crime in some southern states.

Let's do Florida.

Ponce de Leon arrived in Florida and got the hell out as soon as he could. I don't blame him. So then trickled in a bunch from the north, from Cuba getting away from Fidel. The mafia set in at some point, Italian mob, mostly Miami because they just kept going when they got to Gainesville. Nothing to see there. Nothing to do. Nothing good at all.

America waited quite a few years before actually naming Florida as a state because of all the questionable things we still wonder about today. I believe Colorado actually became a state before Florida did. We just didn't want it, or the people, wherever the hell they came from. I think Andrew Jackson decided there might be some farm land there, so why not. Get it cheap. Grow some strawberries maybe. Anything. It's right there south of Georgia. Might as well take it.

This post could probably go on and on, but I'll just end it and say I don't think one football coach has ever come out of Florida. They're always from somewhere else. Shula, Urban, Spurrier, Bobby Bowden and Howard Schnellenburger. All of them.

Maybe Ron Zook descended from Florida ancestors, so that's the exception that proves the rule.

Glad I'm not from Florida. Damn.

edit: I do believe Vanilla Ice is from Florida.

I'm originally from the DC metro area but my ancestors were slaves in Mississippi. A few years ago our family used DNA to trace our roots back to what is present day Sierra Leone. The slave ship was likely a schooner that arrived somewhere on the Georgia coast circa 1839.

I'm not going to get into how wrong your history of Florida is, but I will at least let you know Spurrier is from Florida.

Yes. Lenoir City as well. Which is another East TN city well known for it's Hispanic population growth. Both cities have a decent amount of Hispanic people, that doesn't mean East TN as a whole does. Because it doesn't.

Of course they do, it's just a tiny amount. Most of them seem to either own the asian restaurants, a few with nail salons, and then those few who work at the plants in Oak Ridge. As somebody who lives in West Knoxville where most of them call home, I see it first hand every day.

Knoxville has a sizable Middle Eastern population
Compared to what? Kingston, TN?
The few corner markets and gas stations you see along Kingston Pike don't equal a sizeable Middle Eastern Population. Although they do have great imported Olives. They're still a tiny group here. Again, especially after you get out of Knoxville.

And of course there are plenty of Greeks.
I know a few, most of who went to Bearden and all have houses right next to each other in the West Hills neighborhood. Again, I wouldn't say it's size able amount even in metropolitan Knoxville. Even less outside the city.

Are there groups of people from every ethnicity in Knoxville? Yes. But to say there are sizeable populations of the ones you listed isn't something I would agree with by any means. Especially outside of Knoxville. This coming from someone from an area of the country that is extremely diverse.

Yeah...Stuttgart, AR

Though it is the Rice and Duck Capitol of the World.

Ah -- Worth checking out your German counterpart if you ever get the chance. They don't make women like that in the states.

I understand what you're saying but I don't think it's accurate to judge a low population area by the same diversity standards as a high population area. Given how low population even the cities in E. TN area are I think they're actually doing ok on diversity. Nothing like a lot of places but a lot more diverse than it used to be and growing more diverse by the day. The demographic shifts in E. TN over the past 10 years have been enormous.

As to discounting Morristown's hispanic population it's ~10 percent now and growing (and given that it was zero years ago that's mind blowing). And regarding Knoxville's the middle eastern population - you must be going by the past and outlying areas. I certainly wasn't talking about gas stations.

All these places used to be white/black only in terms of the groups that made up the population but that's just not the case now and it's not been for a few years, some places a lot longer.

Again I'm not claiming the area is super diverse - it would never compare to LA or even smaller places with more diversity but it's not the white/black place it used to be. Besides, our fans are hardly contained to one portion of the state or even the state. We international

I was really only focusing on East TN, like I mentioned at the start of the thread. Speaking of the entire state, I think you're dead on. Particularly with Nashville blowing up and the Memphis metro.

I didn't realize it had blown up that much. That's interesting. I'd say Lenoir City is slowly creeping closer to that mark as well.

I enjoy your posts to much to argue about the demographics of East TN . We obviously have different opinions of size able populations. But, I'll agree whole heartedly with this
