It's exceptionally difficult to win it as a WR.

It's a QB/RB award primarily.

If he puts up those numbers all year and Alabama wins the SEC and makes the playoffs, he'll have a shot.

That's a lot of major if's though.

Any QB that plays pretty good will vault to #1 though, cuz that's how the award works.

However, sometimes it's more about the team you play for and their season than the position.

Winston - YUP. Good stats, but FSU winning was important.

Manziel- Nope, he was legitimately the best player in the country

RG3- Same an Manziel, I would say he was the best player

Cam- Good player, probably the best, but Auburn's season helped.

Ingram- Honestly, Alabama returning to prominence lead his campaign. Deserved it, but Alabama's season and the SEC championship game were huge factors

If Cooper keeps getting 10ish touches a game he'll be the clear cut favorite IMO.

The only thing that could hurt him IMO is if some wr's at smaller school that sling the ball around all game long put up similar numbers.

Some of these offenses like Baylor and WVU really inflate their WR stats.

You don't think your season being perfect helped Cam win the award in the slightest?

Right below that I acknowledged Ingram's award being partially due to Alabama's season. Thanks for not quoting it.

I've admired Cooper with his scary speed for his career. Best at his position. But:

Mariota wins because the award is decided before the playoffs, and I think Oregon rolls over the Pac.

Jameis is out. This: "but of course him being a dumbass will be looked as adversity and not poor character." is bullshite, even if they win another NC. He's damaged beyond repair.

Gurley maybe should win it, but won't because Mariota will and because an SECw team will beat the SECe team badly in the SECCG.

As much as I'd like to see Kenny Hill win it, he has 2 more years and so loses any sympathy-vote. He doesn't have the SportsCenter moments of JFF, and rightly or wrongly voters will pay attention to that. 2015 is his year.

Ameer Abdullah - umm... you got me. Gotta look this one up.

Cooper needs to continue his lights-out performances (tough, with the upcoming schedule) AND for Oregon to lose a game or two and/or Mariota to have a bad game or two.

Who do you think led Auburn to that perfect season?

That is the difference between Cam and Manziel. Cam made every play, in every game, no matter the deficit or the opponent. Manziel let Nick Marshall walk into his own house and out-play him, couldn't even out score a hilariously pedestrian Auburn defense. Manziel had a hell of a lot more talent around him than Cam did.

Only a retard would suggest that Manziel was "definitely" the best player the year he won it, while Cam was only "probably" the best. Cam was much more dominant than Manziel, no matter how pretty his passing yards were.

I think it may be awhile before another freshman or sophomore wins the heisman, IMO. Thanks to Johnny and Jameis.

This is a QB award. Mariota has a 74% completion percentage, 13 touchdowns and no interceptions, and 3 rushing touchdowns as well. There is your Heisman winner barring Oregon completely imploding, which they wont in that conference.

Chances are very slim. First of all, it's incredibly unlikely that he can continue at the same pace because the defenses get much tougher from here on out.

Second, you have to go back to Desmond Howard in 1991 for the last WR who won, and Howard returned punts and kickoffs and had two return TDs. Then you go back to 1972 with Johnny Rodgers, who had two punt returns for TDs. Cooper doesn't return kicks, so that makes it even more difficult.

Agree with this. I just don't have any faith in the media's love affair with Jameis.

Anyways, Mariota has been great so Oregon would definitely have to drop one or two. However they almost lost to Wash. St. on Saturday so it's not set in stone he runs over the PAC.

A retard. Really? Because I had a differing opinion.

Anyways, Newton had an amazing season. However only LaMichael James was benefiting from his team running the table like Newton was. He was the best player, it just also helped he had the best season.

Why I mentioned JFF as clearly the best is because he had a better season statistically than Cam and everyone else around him. His team also didn't come into play.

I'll take that bet. They lose before it is all said and done.

He doesn't. West is too good.

Which is exactly why he might. IMO, the defenses outside of Starkville and T-town aren't very good. TAMU and AU are terrible. OM, LSU and Arkansas are only decent. Sims and Cooper will be on the ballet at the end of the year.

Cooper is one of the sickest college WR's I've ever watched play.....the dude is a gamer and has the right mind set to be a star at the next level.

<5%. Cant do enough as receiver only, has to get all purpose yards to overcome quarterbacks and running backs. He is hands down the best receiver though IMO

If he gets this in 12 or 13 games (i.e. before Heisman is awarded), you are talking about one of the best seasons for a WR ever. However, I think his production is going to go down. Teams will start making it the number 1 priority to contain him, and (hopefully) Alabama takes advantage with its other weapons, first and foremost its three really good RBs running against a softened up defense.

I think you are talking more in the range of 1,600 yards and 15 Tds for Cooper through 12 or 13 games, which rightly or wrongly doesn't get a WR the Heisman.

ESPN hasn't tried to make a story out of Cooper yet. let them hype him up and we got a shot.

LINK

He's now Number 3 on the watch list. Jameis is nowhere to be found and it looks like someone finally noticed Ameer Abdullah is wrecking things for Nebraska.

Mike Evans had better numbers at this point last year after playing the best defense in the country in Bama. Point is, we are still in September
