CFB is no where near as bland as the NFL. Outside of the Saints, I barely watch any NFL football because it's a bland product. Same offenses, same defenses, etc. CFB is diverse and still tradition filled, and if it's on TV, I'm watching.

4.0 with 30+ ACT scores that aren't getting full scholarships

Maybe not at their first choice, but I don't believe a kid with that GPA and ACT score isn't getting a full ride somewhere.

Perhaps, the Alabama fans that didn't attend carried 4.0's and ACT 30's.

To your point, times are changing and the culture has changed.

Don't focus on a few bad apples. Look to the great young men that play the game we all love.

Tickets price = inflation. Just the way it is.

I agree that its not entirely new, but what is new is that the attitude has crept down into high schools and even youth sports.

I witnessed an 8 year old football coach and some parent volunteers set up an elaborate camera system (sidelines and end zones) so that they could film future teams and breakdown their sets.

8 year olds.
That's been going on a while in youth sports. My son is 15 yrs old - played peewee football and was coached by a former Auburn QB (from the 70's) - the coach had 2 parents assigned to film duty, he made the peewee boys watch 30 minutes of film on their opponent before they hit the field for practice. I thought the whole concept was freaking ridiculous for a bunch of 8-9-10-11 yr old boys that have the attention span of a knat.

The academic abuses are ruining academia. Some of your better professors are going to smaller Division III schools where there is no pressure to treat athletes differently.

Pssssh... whatever.

What kind of serious academic of the ivory tower variety teaches the type of courses a football player takes anyway?

I'm sorry but Dr. Stick-up-his-arse Intellectual isn't teaching Poultry. The guys who teach the type of courses football players take either don't care at all and just want a paycheck or treat the class as a necessary evil they have to do before the get back to researching chickens.

I'm talking about SEC schools.

I will submit Mississippi State for example. The board would agree that MSU probably has the most lax scholarship requirements.

A 30 ACT and a 4.0 is eligible for a $10,000/yr scholarship.

At Alabama, the same credentials make a student eligible for a $9,836/yr scholarship.

A 16 ACT and a 2.5 GPA will get you in as a student athlete, where the scholarships are worth $25k+ per year.

the college game was significantly cheaper than the NFL game and now its very close if not more expensive in some cases

Good. I hate going to NFL games. The asshat per capita is much higher. Higher ticket prices makes sure that ratio is lower.

I completely agree. Ads, ads, more revenue, etc.

I wish it were more collegiate. If we wound up with stadiums of 50-70k, that would be A-ok with me.

I don't care about the thugery or academic fraud. These guys aren't in college to get an education. This is just the NFL's minor league.

Pleasantly surprised that there has been any positive response, much less a majority.

I still love the game, and I support my team, but I'm just getting concerned.

That pays 50% of tuition ONLY for a year. If I'm not mistaken, $9,836 is one semester tuition for fulltime student for the '13 school yr. And Bama BOT just approved a 5% hike in tuition for this upcoming academic yr.

Insulting people is a good way to get people not to take your topic seriously.

However, full ride scholarship is so greatly overrated when it comes to athletes. You have to keep in mind that most players aren't there for an education and most aren't really good students. Solution to the problem is get rid of college athletics (especially football and basketball). Start a minor league football system for players who aren't even interested in a college education to go play football, earn money and if they want to have an education they can use money earned from playing minor league professional football to pay for an education during the offseason. That way you will get your cheaper tickets. Right now they are forcing these kids to get a college education because it is required to play their sport (going from high school to the NFL or NBA isn't an option)

Sadly, it's a microcosm of the world as a whole. Money seems to matter more and more, and values and personal responsibility seem to matter less and less.

And that's my point, my educated Alabama friend. The point of a university is to educate, not to field a football team. You are devaluing a degree when you let people graduate that read at a 2nd grade level (Oklahoma State).

I wouldn't feel as bad if there weren't kids that worked their arse off in the classroom but couldn't afford that other 50% end up struggling financially to make it in college or be saddled with extensive debt while the kids that don't care about academics whine about not getting paid.

If we start paying college athletes a stipend, I'm done with college athletics.
