Bayou Bengals = Plainsmen

Auburn (town) was self proclaimed "The loveliest village on the plains" after a poem ( ), so the Alabama Poly crowd decided they needed some class, so they became "The Plainsmen"......I personally think it's kinda sweet.

Makes you wonder why Bama doesn't call itself the "Cokeheads" since Tuscaloosa sorostitues usually have the best blow around. I think that would be sweet too.

Why are we the only one that gets this question? Alabama are the Crison Tide (they are water lol) yet they have both and elephant and Forrest Gump as those mascots.
