you are referring to the crusades, I presume. I bet you have no idea why the crusades happened tho, do ya. I will tell you, then. muslim hordes invaded Europe, and were pillaging their way towards rome and the Vatican, seemingly unstoppable. the pope sent out a DESPERATE call to arms for all Christians to help stop the advancing muslim army. the Christians responded, and stopped the invasion...somehow, the history books recorded it as Christian aggression, when it was nothing but a defensive action. but don't let facts get in the way of your Christian bashing.

This doesn't reek of bias at all. I bet Muslims could explain away stupid shite in their past too. Does it matter in 2016? No. But clearly enough to you to respond to that guy.

Actually the Pope called for the Crusades because the Byzantines asked for help in stopping the Turks who were beginning to encroach on the Eastern frontier. They were not doing so for Islam... but because they were part of the nomadic tribe migration that kicked the ever living shite out of Europe, the Middle East, India, and China.

The Pope agreed for the following reasons: To regain control of Holy Sites in the Middle East and to reunite the Western and Eastern branches of Christianity as himself as the Grand Poobah of Popedom. Those were his stated goals I might add. Defending Rome itself was not one of those goals.

It didn't work. But it did accomplish some great things for the Vatican and Italy.

It opened trade, cemented the Pope's role as head of Western Christianity and thanks to a mild whoopsee devastated the Byzantine Empire (the Eastern half of the Roman Empire) when the 4th Crusade decided to sack Constantinople because fighting those pesky Muslims was hard work.

So yes, the biggest thing the Crusades managed to do was to help destroy the Roman Empire... the Christian Roman Empire.

Rome was sacked and burned quite a few times... by Christian armies and maybe the odd pagan or two.

It would be several centuries after the Crusades that the Turks would threaten Central Europe... which had less to do with them being Muslims and more to do with them really enjoying conquering people.

I might add the Turks also conquered the Muslim countries in the Middle East once the Mongols finished stomping a mudhole in the region.

Every religion out there has a lot of things to be ashamed about, just like every major political movement, every ethnic group... hell, even science has lead to new and horrible ways to kill people. Religions have also done a tremendous amount of good in the world. History is never as cut and dried as people would like to think.

Except that Hitler, Stalin, and Mao were world class a-holes. That's pretty cut and dried actually.

Patton a musi lover? you will have to turn in your bama fan card.

Muslims can't paint their history as a misunderstanding since they are still being savages in 2016

The human sense of morality preceded religions.

the truth doesn't need your belief nor mine in it, to exist. what I posted is truth. and the muslims haven't changed their goals, agenda or objectives. in fact, they are invading Europe again as we speak....yet its the Christians getting bashed in this thread. I cant figure that out. maybe because only one name has power.

Grouping billions of people under the umbrella of christians or muslims despite a wide range of beliefs and, more importantly, actions is most people's main point of contention.

You are picking the wrong point of contention. #stopislam not only sets you against over a billion people worldwide but also feeds directly in to the leaders rhetoric of western society attacking their religion and will likely help attract followers.

Clearly it's a big problem in today's world but we need to focus on Isis, focus on the violent extremists and throw strong support behind the Muslim leaders worldwide who say that such attacks are actually against the teachings (just Google it if you don't think they are out there).

Religious texts written so long ago are subject to the interpretation of their time, it is the people who are the problem, not the religion which is being used as a tool to try and maintain the control they have had for so long.

I don't want to get in a back and forth political debate on here. The above is simply my take on a path to dealing with the terrorist problem.

In fact, they were not only Atheists, they wanted to outlaw religion altogether, much like Tim.

You gotta love the talking points from Atheists, they are so easily refuted it's not even funny. And I say this as an Agnostic.

You are aware that the vast majority of genocidal actions in the 20th century were instigated by atheists. Hitler, Mao, Stalin, etc? Read a book you ignorant savage.
