Yea that was a disaster. Look at the impact it had in recruiting.

Who said it impacted recruiting? Saban does this stuff because he knows he can away with it, bad PR or not. Point was it absolutely blew up in his face, he had no idea Smith was going to the media with all that.

Stanford's coach says it best.

Yeah, I can't even get the logic behind needing permission to transfer if you've completed your degree at the school. You fulfilled your commitment to the school by earning your degree. You shouldn't be bound by restrictions if you want to transfer elsewhere to continue your education in a graduate program.

It's actually pretty straightforward, whether or not you agree with it. Playing in the NCAA isn't a legal right, so they can allow whatever restrictions they want. The kids aren't being restricted from attending any university, just from playing for their NCAA-sanctioned sports teams.

As for the logic behind restriction, programs don't want to give their opponents inside information via a player that was recently with the program. It won't stop them from being able to share -- they can always sit out a year while communicating with the staff -- but it discourages that behavior. So, while there are legitimate arguments for not restricting a transfer, there are also legitimate arguments for doing so. It's just a question of which arguments you find more compelling.

But coaches can jump ship to LSU overnight

Oddly enough, I'd suspect that the NCAA is afraid of a lawsuit if they restrict coaching movement for any reason other than egregious violations resulting in a show-cause. The kids have already proven to have very mixed results in the court system.

Bama doesn't play Southern Miss until 2019. They do play La La in 2018. I'm not even going to mention Mercer in 2017.

That's ridiculous, LSU is not restricting Harris from going to SEC.

They don't need too. I doubt any SEC team wants him unless they need a 3rd string QB for a year and have an extra a scholly to spend. It didn't look like he ever learned the Miles/Cameron offense very well, so I doubt there's much inside knowledge of Canada's schemes he can give to opposing teams.

It looks like Raheem Falkins may be ending his Alabama career without recording a single statistic.

We thought he may contribute early in his time here but there was just way too much talent for him to overcome. Happens to a lot of kids that had the guts to go compete with the Bama roster.

I am not sure if that is sound logic. It seems like there are tons of other ways to get access. Hiring a former grad student, taking a call from a radio play by play announcer...

I think kids should be free to where they choose when they complete a degree, but it is not like they do not know it is within the scope of the school to restrict them.

I know that this is the hook that all these lower to mid tier guys are biting, but the truth is that they would be FAR better served by going to a school where they can feel like they're an important asset and where they will be given the proper amount of attention to grow, gain confidence and develop their abilities into 5*'s instead of being cannon fodder right outta the gate for guys that are further along than them. Some people need room to grow, instead of being overwhelmed and beat down constantly.

I really liked RF, and thought he would fit in good at LSU, but after seeing what happened to Quinn he maybe should have went with Baylor or TCU.

I could see restricting the conference and anyone on the schedule, but the rest seems petty.

Yeah we aren't giving Brandon harris any restrictions. He might even go to one of our rival teams. It's BS to tell a kid where he can and can't go

3 different SEC teams have contacted him, supposedly including Florida

And lets not pretend Raheem Falkins is some sort of amazing player who basically hasnt played at all in 4 years, which is why Saban is restricting him. He's restricting him simply because he can and always will

Falkins broke his leg and it was slow to heal. He then fell behind a loaded depth chart.

Cam Sims is probably going to start next year. He caught 14 balls last season.
