I agree. I just don't think you have to make up criticisms about him. He wasn't a terrible recruiter, though he wasn't an excellent one either. And he didn't leave the program in shambles, though it wasn't in great condition.

Is this the "iron hardwood", "iron arena"?

Agree

Agree there too, which is depressing because his reputation was that he was an ace recruiter at Florida.

Yep. Not on probation, not a dumpster fire, but this specific roster was pretty thin on talent. Still, it is college basketball, you don't need 3 years to rev up a program.

Slightly OT but this question got asked on our board and I was wanting to get the other sides take on it. In basketball would you rather beat Auburn or Kentucky? Some couldn't understand how most of us would prefer to beat UK. I would imagine that most of you would feel the same way in that beating UK is a much bigger deal. I hope this match-up eventually gets to that level of importance but it isn't there yet for me anyway.

Honestly, in basketball, I look at things much more from the macro than in football which is much more micro. I very much do not want to get swept by Auburn, that would suck, but losing or winning a specific game just doesn't get me super happy or sad. I guess maybe because we have won some big games (i.e. Kentucky) in past years and turned around and lost @ Auburn or something and that win meant nothing.
So, I guess I would say I don't really have a strong feeling either way.

Kentucky all day every day. Even if this was UT or UK (UT IMO is Alabama's bigger rival in basketball due to the similarities in success and how close the series is), I'd say UK. Not only is a huge win for the program, the free marketing you get on a national level. Recruits from all over begin to look at you

Yep. When I was in school (mid-2000s), I thought of Mississippi State and Tennessee as our two biggest basketball rivals. Auburn was still Auburn, obviously, but those were the 2 games I feel like everyone got the most excited for (and Kentucky, obviously, but that is because they are Kentucky).
I think the Pearl-Johnson thing will make everything a lot of fun going forward.
It's lame sounding, but the fact that we can both be good, beat up on eachother and still both have lots of success is kind of a relief. It makes the games more fun, less stressful and less apt to be taken over by redneck idiots like in football.

I said as much on our board. Beating Kentucky was huge and unexpected.
Neither Alabama or Auburn are great basketball teams, and the rivalry is not nearly as intense as it is with football.
No one expected us to beat Kentucky. Both Alabama and Auburn fans have no idea who wins this one tonight.

I predict a lot of shite talking by Bama fans before and after regardless of the results

Clearly, just read this thread so far. Bammers are just crushing the trash talk.

Agreed. Pearl has really energized that program in a very positive way. Johnson I think has done a great job of coming in and marketing the program also. Coleman wasn't sold out for the South Carolina game, but the student section was and I had a blast. Both have very impressive recruiting classes coming in and seem to be on the right track.

and Arthur Edwards will make some threes.
Let's just hope he decides to make them before the game is out of hand and there's only 2 minutes left in the game.

He was huge down the stretch in Nashville.
Too bad we were down 17 down the stretch.

Auburn is more desperate to win this after Pearl got swept last year. I'd be surprised if Alabama goes into Auburn after Pearl's biggest win in two years and finds a way to win another.

I honestly did not expect that win against Kentucky at all. Our team is very bi-polar, and we are missing a ton of key players due to injury. Beating Bama is always nice, but that Kentucky win was our first since 2000, and our first ranked win in a LONG time.
Overall, Pearl has me excited about Auburn basketball for his first 2 years than I ever was as a student, which I consider a net positive even if we aren't winning yet.

I expect Bama to win. Or maybe lose. I'm not sure. But, AJ is building a good team.

Well we know the half time of this game won't be as fun as the half time of the hoops game at Bama!
Didn't want to let you down

Nah, everyone's being so cautious with this one so I'll start the trash talk!
ALABAMA IS GOING TO LAY WASTE TO AUBURN! Avery Johnson begins his first year undefeated against Bruce Almighty, Retin penetrates all night and Riley Norris goes full Steph Curry beyond the arch. Aubies start abandoning their 7,000 strong high school arena with around 10 minutes to go...... and we miss like 6 free throws (I'm, not completely insane here).
