Freakin amazing that Bama pulls this crap...Jezz,I recall about a year ago Saban saying it wouldn't makce a difference what the COA stipend was and he was OK with Bama's lower number compared to the rest of the SEC.

I freakin knew they'd pull this crap...I expected
AU and UT to cook the books from the get go but for a moment I guess I thought Bama whould hold the line...actually thought Saban might have some integrity on this issue.

Where have I seen that Tennessee number before: 5 666.

Sure that Satan isn't running their program?

Interesting...Alabama's cost of attendance went up from $3,298 to $5,386 in less than a year. That is an increase of 63%. Why does it cost so much more this year than it did last year in Tuscaloosa?

I believe because it had to be more in line with Auburn's cost of attendance. Actual tuition costs aren't that far apart to have a cost of attendance so far apart.

I thought the same thing. Couldn't see the difference in COA between Alabama and Auburn.

Living expenses higher in "The Loveliest Village on the Plains" than in the mini-Birmingham ghetto that is Tusca-loser. It really is a no-brainer.

As a Bama fan said above it should be $10,000. It would take that much to get me to live in that dump at the least.

The SEC can and should come in with their own cap. Somewhere around $3000. They will have to do something, or you will keep getting the books cooked. Greg Sankey has said the conference would look at setting a cap.

A look at the numbers, by other sources. CNN ,USNWR

inc tuition room board and fees ( before grants and scholarships)

UGA- 24500
Bama- 23200

Cost of living

Athens is 5% greater than Tuscaloosa.
I find it hard to believe that when you factor in other expenses, that UA COA could be almost 2k greater than UGA.

COA is a Financial Aid established cost factor. Bama's numbers were so much lower than AUs because they were trying to advertise the cost to the general student lower, in order to attract future students. The push to increase enrollment to 36K has caused them to do some strange things recently. This just shows football trumps everything at Uat.

In all, 28 of the 65 “Power Five” schools will be able to pay more in cost of attendance than LSU will be allowed to pay,

LSU's will need to be more in-line with the other top schools in the SEC. There's too big a gap monetarily. IMO, this will be used as a recruiting tool because it is real money for food, etc. In any event, $2000+ gap is significant for food or other miscellaneous items and no SEC school should be that far apart from the other. Alabama at least stated their were based on spending habits from the U.S. census bureau. What was LSU's numbers based on?

Alabama - Tuition (In-state - $12,051 & out-of-state - $23,950) COA - $5,386
Auburn - Tuition (In-state - $10,200 & out-of-state - $27,384) COA - $5,586
LSU - Tuition (In-state - $9,714 & out-of-state - $26,877) COA - $3200 on-campus & $3800 off-campus

I agree that for one there should be a cap placed on all SEC schools before this gets out of hand and also that the numbers should be derived from the same data (i.e. U.S. census expenditures) providing a more accurate dollar amount (although varying) across the board. I believe an honest assessment would put that number equal to or less than $5,000 but the money war has seemingly already begun.

"Loveliest Village on the Plains" can't even afford to keep their mall open past 7, it has nothing to do outside of College Street, skybar is the only bar worth going to, and has by far the worst music scenery in the SEC. You talk about the ghetto as if Auburn doesn't have one (which they do, and its bad), but I'll take our ghetto over seeing this shite. You guys are really fricked up.

COA is not a factor of the bar scene. We know that is the priority at UAt.

No. I don't think the SEC should put themselves at a disadvantage with the other conferences. Should be a cap at all schools.

This is for all the Auburn fans in this thread who seem to have forgotten Jay Jacobs admitting to raising the cost of attendance for recruiting purposes. Article was posted back in February, when living in Auburn, AL was magically going to start costing more than any other place in the SEC.

quote:

Jacobs, for instance, said the average full cost of attendance benefit for Auburn athletes is likely in the neighborhood of $6,000 per year, with an additional $1,500 if they enroll in summer school. That number would rank among the highest in the SEC and perhaps even a couple thousand dollars more per year than some of the regional schools Auburn regularly recruits against.

Will that be an advantage Auburn can point to in a close recruiting battle? You better believe it.

"We think student-athletes are going to choose Auburn because it's the best place for them to come and get an education and compete, but certainly having a higher number than most in the Southeastern Conference is going to be helpful," Jacobs said. "Having the lowest number in the SEC could be hurtful. The way we recruit and the quality of student-athlete we want, we hope that number isn't a deciding factor but human nature says it could be depending on the circumstances."

I was looking at the reported numbers across the us.

There is no way, to justify a higher cost of living in Knoxville, Auburn, Starkville, & Tuscaloosa; compared to Palo Alto, Chicago, Atlanta, Syracuse, etc.... if anything these cities easily have the lowest cost of living. Someone is clearly cooking the books.
