Dude - there was no era like that. It was the only time it happened.

You think there an era when crowd noise was bad? Are you 9?

and he just didn't step away - can you read. He could not continue. The noise stopped play - and the ref gave more time rather than throw a flag.

Like I said the Earthquake game at LSU was in the 80s. People didn't start yelling about football when you started following it.

Bama's stadium gets loud. Looch is entitled to his opinion - but LSU, A&M and Florida are louder to me. I am surprised he said that though.

Tuscaloosa's post was right on, and not an insult to anybody (which seems unavoidable here, so hats off to him for pulling that off).

Playing at Kyle Field is a definite advantage to the Aggies - no question. And maybe the noise actually screws Bama up on a play or two which end up determining the outcome. Lowerclassmen at 'Bama may indeed be intimidated. But it isn't like the older guys have never seen anything like that before - they definitely have.

I guess I just don't get all the dick-measuring contests here.

Its a thread that started as A&M is loud and turned into which stadiums are loudest. That is a dick measuring topic by its nature.

I was a couple of years away from being born in 1985, but I managed to read that fancy article that your boy posted. I'll post it again and re-read it.

So, either Texas' Coach Akers was mistaken when he said

quote:

"In years past, a team could be penalized for excessive crowd noise"

or there was an era of college football in which crowd noise was frowned upon by officials. The article also reads as if it were a strange occurrence for fans to be riled up by players, and the article suggests that it was highly frowned upon for a coach to encourage fans to be loud during plays.

To me, it seems as if crowd noise loud enough to disrupt a play was a very rare thing back in 1985 - and obviously frowned upon by some. Today, it's a game-by-game occurrence, depending on where you play.

Now, do you think College Station's 77,000 fans were louder in 1985 than the numerous stadiums that hold 90,000-100,000+ are today?

I have no doubt in my mind that A&M has a very loud stadium, and it certainly would have been a sight to see back in 1985... but that article doesn't really prove much of anything. Other than Texas' collective staff and administration were a bunch of pussies in 1985.

You know A&M's football teams are rarely any good. Just since 2000 every team has lost at least four games with most losing 5-6+ games. And that was in that weak arse conference. A&M had a good season last year but you ppl are in for a rude awakening.

In 1985 they bitched when your radio was too loud. The Lifelong LSU fan that had never heard anything that loud must not have been at the earthquake game

Wait, wait, wait. You forgot to answer the question about the multiple games you've been to at Kyle for Texas and Oklahoma games. You have been outed as a fricking liar. Please log out.

This.

I've been to night/late afternoon games at just about all of the big stadiums in the SEC with the exception of UGA and aTm. They are all about the same. This arguing about who is louder is a joke. UA, AU, LSU, UF, etc. there's not really any difference.

We sat on the East side on seats 1 and 2 right next the the aTm fans at the Bama/aTm game and they were loud. That god awful yell was loud and the what ever you want to call the NSYNC/guy cheer squad doing their boy band dance moves just made it that much worse. It kind of felt like Bama was getting beat by a bunch of gay people.

If you've ever seen the movie "The Breakup" where Vince Vaughn gets beat up by the gay brother of Jennifer Anniston is kinda how I felt.

I agree. Of the two, Death Valley gets loud..... But the Swamp gets the loudest. At least when the fans give a shite.....

If an article from 1985 is being used to argue about the level of crowd noise at Kyle Field, then it should be noted that Alabama won at Kyle Field in the same time period (1988 "Hurricane Bowl"). So there you go.

I understand SECSECSECSEC but this is just a stupid statement. Anyway if that's the case, what does that say about the sec if our best year since 2000 was the year we got out of the big 12 and into the sec?
