You make a valid point and you may be right.

But his record as a HC is abysmal.

He needs to read "The Peter Principle" and stay put.

I agree that he's likely to have a much better career as an OC than an HC. But his personality tends to overshadow the fact that he came into the Raiders way too young (and, let's face it, the Raiders were a death sentence for almost any career, coaching or playing, at the time) and that his stint at UT came when they were completely in the doldrums and he actually had some success before leaving. The Vol fans weren't enraged because a terrible coach was leaving, after all. And his stint at USC started at the same time as some major sanctions. He's probably never going to be as successful as an HC as he thinks he'll be -- personality problems again -- but his career isn't quite the trainwreck it looks like from outside.

I'll take him as a recruiter and an assistant coach. Just not as a DC.

You do know that Les is an offensive coach, right?

He knows little about defense.

His specialty is offense.

Yes, I know. It is laughable.

I figured he was a DC beforehand because he puts a good defense out typically.

I agree completely. It seems Saban recognized that when few people did.

I should rephrase my statement. I meant to say that it is an assumption he will SOON get a HC offer he would accept -- that he will leave Alabama next year. That could very well happen, but its not a given.

Some experts on this board said he would be gone after his first year. More experts predicted he would leave after last year. These are the same experts who predicted Saban would be coaching the Cowboys ... wait, the Browns ... wait, the Longhorns ...

Assumption: "a thing that is accepted as true or as certain to happen, without proof."

Not to pile on a guy, but isn't this a valid concern.

I am not making light of his situation, but it seems he has a serious problem to have allowed his drinking to throw away all he had last year.

I like redemption stories, and I hope he gets it right. But I think he will be scrutinized very closely.

I've never heard of an assistant being hired in September before. Is he actually an assistant this year or not until 2017?

Wasn't he hired as an analyst and he can't have any contact with players or did ESPN botch the announcement?

no doubt he has been "consulting" for us probably all summer. It was in the interest of both parties no to officially hire him until after the usc game.

Yes, it is.

Why Nicky would let a known drunk anywhere near his program is mind-boggling.

Almost as much as the fans praising the hire.

I doub't he's ever going to be seen on field or in practice this year. Probably going to assist with game planing and that's about it.
