Now post one that shows median household income versus state school athletic department spending.

Or a map that doesn't use figures from 2000.

I suggest profit/loss of athletic department vs median income. Penalizing a program that spends more than others, yet still makes profit is misleading, imo

Seriously doubt that's going to help the southern cause here. The South is poor and football-obsessed to an unhealthy extent. Nobody needs a chart to see that.

Damn, I guess we'll just have to console ourselves with the fact that we've won twice as many sanctioned men's SEC football championships as LSU.

Based on 2011 data:

Alabama
UA Athletic Expenses: $105,068,152
Median Household Income: $41,415
Ratio: 2536.959

Louisiana

LSU Athletic Expenses: $91,766,925
Median Household Income: $41,734
Ratio: 2198.853

For comparison:

Texas
TAMU Athletic Expenses: $78,310,805
Median Household Income: $49,382
Ratio: 1585.496

You're right here - in that, all of the schools I listed still make a profit.

Although, UA does subsidize their earnings from student fees (4.2%) while the other two do not.

And, of course, this is 2011 data so multiple things have changed - most notably TAMU's move to the SEC.

That map pretty much displays the exact same info.

What you can see is that the AR/LA/AL/MI all have the highest density of low income households.

EDIT: GA might be joining these ranks but they have the Atlanta area to boost up their ranking.

N'ah. This implies that athletic department profits are a good thing. That would be like joyously celebrating casino (the House's) winnings.

While sports entertainment profits are categorized as an economic positive, the actual benefit is debatable.

Should we stay on topic with the OP's fishing expedition?

Those bear-frickers in Central Alaska sure are poor. Amirite? Amirite?

Lot of truth in that. Is a profitable University AD an economic boon locally or regionally?

Not all profit is the same. Again I say any equation that uses only spending is misleading at best. I would also suggest that UA sports generates more revenue for business and State in relation to total state revenue than does the other two listed.

Further proof Mizzou and A&M don't belong in SEC.

I noticed there is an inordinate amount of dark green in western Wyoming. Oil perhaps?

Hell, the whole state of Wyoming looks good, especially if you don't want to be crowded by 10's of millions of people.

You really thought LSU was going to run things after your flukish run in the 2000s? You guys still don't get it. Old money kills new money. Y'all are rich. Bama is wealthy. Deal with it.
