Since cracking the top 5 on September 28, 2008 following the infamous "blackout" game @ UGA, Alabama has been ranked in the top five of 110 of the past 130 polls.

There will absolutely be a drop off from one of the top 2 coaches of all time to whoever the next guy is.
That said, the drop off will be likely to a top 10 annual team instead of a top 1-5 team. Bama will still compete for SEC titles and still compete for natties, just possibly not every year.
The fans that think Bama is going to be some 8-4 middle of the pack team are ignoring history, resources and the addition to winning that exists in Tuscaloosa. Bama will hire a very good coach and will continue to be the best program in the conference, just not as dominant as present.

There's obviously going to be a big drop off after Saban, because how can there not be, however as long as we don't hire a coach named Mike we'll be alright.
We'll just have to get used to the idea of not contending for the national championship every single damn year because that's just absurd, it just happens to be what Saban did (and is doing).
