I was wondering how long it would take USCjr to show up and beat their chests about being #9.

Not long.

Auburn football started in 1982. Except for 1957, that counted too.

35% of MSU's football program Bowl History involves Dan Mullen. This list is impressive up top, but I wouldn't trade current situational places with:

Tennessee
Florida
USCjr
aTm
Ole Miss
Vandy
Mizzou
Kentucky
Auburn

Not to be "that guy", but what happened in 1970 to make it historically relevant in this context?

1970 is just around the time that all SEC teams integrated (and yes, it's sad it was so late), so that is a clear line of demarcation, imo, from the old days.

I have no doubt that UGA boasts an unbeatable winning %age among non-championship teams...even over LSU.

Thanks Richt.

Wow, that's an original joke.
Seriously funny stuff right there.

Because one more in 47 years makes a huge difference. And that still leaves Tennessee, Florida and Auburn, doesn't it?

Dude. Since 1970 UGA has 6 SEC Titles. (1976, 1980, 1981,1982,2002,2005) Granted LSU has 7, but come on. For the self proclaimed SEC Beasts one more is not much. You guys like to place yourselves in the same company of Alabama, and truth is you are closer to Georgia than you are Alabama. MUCH closer.

Don't forget about scholarship limits in 1975.
Of course most experts agree that 1990 is the best starting point.

It is what it is. Alabama deserved to forfeit the games in 1993. Langham was an idiot for "signing" with an agent and lying.

The textbook case is altogether different. The NCAA was woefully inconsistent in doling out punishment. Ball State and Nebraska had nearly identical cases and scated. It was also a textbook system that any student, not just athletes, benefited from. So not exactly providing benefits to a select few. Just those on academic/athletic scholarships. But I guess Alabama paid for having under staffed compliance under Mike Shula.

Great post. I mean, I don't lose sleep about those games being technically forfeited, but it always blows my mind when people can't discuss this particular issue reasonably within the context of discussions such as this thread, when historical strength is discussed.

It's such an arbitrary and bullshite punishment, particularly in instances where no competitive advantage was directly gained. The NCAA says those wins didn't happen, yet I was sitting in the stands for many of them. I don't know how anyone would take such a retroactive punishment seriously? Did Paterno's total wins really swing back and forth by 100+ wins while the NCAA decided what the frick they wanted to do with that dumpster fire? That's just Orwellian groupthink at its very core.

And then you've got the resident Auburn Kool-Aid drinker up in here lashing out at the "saddest" Bama fans for pointing out the facts on this particular form of punishment, all the while formulating Bama assassin conspiracy theories...all in the same thread! This place is truly one where the loonies thrive.

Indeed. While I know you want it to be true sooooo bad, this is just something you made up in your head.

Indeed. Alabama's actual on-field record is an astounding 907-318-44. Which is second all-time behind Michigan.

I wonder how many of those recent Alabama SEC victories have been due to corrupt officiating? 50%

Yeah. LSU and UGA are basically the same in SEC tradition. Unless I am wrong, both have 6 conference titles since 1970, and since the inception of the SEC, UGA has 12 titles and LSU 11.
