It's a travesty that they were denied their rightful rematch. So unfair.

Using the logic that the "best" team doesn't always get to the national title (and can therefore have a loss on the record but still be the best team in the country), I STILL can not say I believe we were the best team last year.

We got beat by two teams at the end of the year. Period.

Part of being a team isn't just players' potential or physical capabilities. It's team work. It's wanting to win more than allowing anything mentally get in the way.

Do I think we may have had the most physically talented team? Yes. Do i think we had the best TEAM? Nope. And it's pretty obvious.

Sad bama players don't have the mental toughness to get up for a Sugar Bowl.

Reflection on saban maybe? Or the players just have lil balls and only beat inferior teams?

Prob both I guess.

It reminds me of USC in the Sun Bowl when they got beat by Georgia Tech and they showed up an hour late for the dinner and were just generally low class pussies.

Good thing Kiffin's at Alabama now.

UA was not the best team in the SEC or anywhere last year. Had a solid team that played well enough to only drop 2 games. OU outclassed us in the bowl game. If the team was not motivated makes it worse, but OU was a better team and this year will not get over looked. AU I not going to say we were better. At the end AU won and the way it finished not concerned because I do not think UA could have won in overtime. The game was close because of the rivalry but AU played with fewer mistakes which Saban says is the most important thing to focus on.

In regards to thinking we were the best I see more opposing fans on here say that throughout the past season to help thump their chest when they beat or gave UA a good game. No different than USC fans when they beat a UA team that finished 4th in our division in 2010, but they still pump their chest about how they beat a great UA team. So go figure.

I never felt that way at anytime last year. I thought if we could get better on d as the year progressed and could score enough points we might get lucky and make it through.

But shite happens and then you lose to OU in the sugarbowl.

I thought FSU was the best team in the country very early in the season. They proved me right.

No. FSU was better in multiple areas than Alabama: QB, WR, DL, secondary. Would have been a tough, physical match, but FSU likely would have won. I think a case could be made that Auburn, Alabama, or FSU could be the best team in the nation in 2013 depending on which way a little luck fell.

Only way they can win championships.

Yea because 2011 is our only national title.

Suspect OL and weak corners last year. I figured we'd win 10 or 11 games, but definitely not the best team in the country.

Exactly.

AU was the only team in the country that was beating FSU in Jan last year. Bama sure as hell wouldnt have even if they were able to get past Mizzou.

Yes, The machine that is AU, the team that barely scraped by such an AWFUL Alabama team on the last play of the game, was the ONLY team that was capable of beating FSU that day.....

You realize how stupid you sound right?

Guess not. Even without a championship attitude, they were a miracle from winning the conference though. And would have ended up the best team. Bama doesn't lose BCS title games. Up until the last one, the SEC hadn't choked in one in a pretty long time.

While I think FSU's body of work was better than ours, and might have been a better overall team, I think we were a matchup nightmare for them just because of how our defense performs against the pro style offense. It would have been a low scoring game but I think we would have beaten them just for that one reason. We wouldnt have been motivated to showcase AJ nearly as much as winning the game. Hell, even with all that happened in that OU game, if we had kept running Henry late I believe full well that we would have won that game because they had no answer for him. He was making that defense hemorrhage like a stuck pig.

No, I dont think Alabama was the best team in the country. I think FSU was, but I do think they were better than AU and I do think they would have won the NCG against FSU purely on the matchup differences.

Florida State's defensive line vs Alabama's offensive line. Florida State's passing attack vs Alabama's passing defense. Florida State takes this game in the end.

Florida State was the best team in the country, and they were better than the South Eastern Conference's best, Auburn - albeit by a small margin.

OU beat that elephant arse, and would have 3 out of 5. Excuses in this thread are bullshite. The better team won.

Unfortunately for owe you, it all comes crashing down this September when they get Butch-slapped in Norman.

I keep seeing you say this, but we all know its not true. There are plenty of times when the better team didnt win. Hell, Bama played LSU twice in 2011 and different teams won each time. how is this possible if the better team always wins? Because thats not how it works.

AU won that game on a miracle and every AU fan I have talked to not on this frickstick board has admitted to that.

They really need to think that Bama missing 11 field goals was just Auburn being the better team.

Auburn having athletes on the field while Alabama had a bunch of fat fricks on the field does not point to a miracle. If Chris Davis had not run the kick back, John Mincy, Robenson Therezie or Jermaine Whitehead would have been able to. Alabama had no speed on the field and Gus Malzahn out-strategized Nick Saban by calling the timeout and making sure the right personnel was on the field. Nick Saban refused to adjust.

Regardless of personnel, running that kick back was a miracle. plain and simple. Plenty of people on this board have said it. Hell the fact that that kid didnt put it through the endzone with his hellacious leg was a miracle itself. I never expected him to make it but knowing what I have heard about him, the last thing I ever expected was for it to NOT go out the back of the endzone.

ETA: said miss instead of make.
