Hoping that UGA fans can set aside their feelings about the Richt decision and get behind Coach Smart regardless.

Meh... A place like Georgia shouldn't be your first gig.

I don't understand hiring a DC in such an offensive era. You can find good DCs. You better damn well be competent on offense and you better not be changing OCs every other year. Recipe for disaster as we've seen.

I think he was one of the best hires you could've made all things considered. Ties to UGA, respected, success as a coordinator, Saban tree etc. We'll see how it plays out

Well, to be fair, it can't get much worse than Schottenheimer. Plus, Kirby is a UGA grad...

Keep in mind that UGA is going to be saving some money by not paying Smart as much as Richt. They can afford to pony up more money

Smart is no dummy. He played and coached at UGA. He knows exactly where UGA gets in its own way. He also makes $1.5M as a DC at a program that is doing pretty well. Bet your sweet arse he already handled the coach salary gig. If he wants Will say your goodbyes.

I'm very exited by the hire. He recruits the areas that we recruit already. He can show up at a recruits house with national title rings all over his hand and sell them on winning....something he has alot of experience with at Alabama. This is a homerun hire.

The comparisons to Muschamp are moronic. Anyone who has ever spent 2 minutes watching them in action know that Smart is more like McElwain in terms of personality and absolutely nothing like Muschamp.

I wish Kirby well, although I think it would be super shitty to bail on a team headed to the playoffs.

I mean, I can understand leaving before a regular bowl game, but the stakes are kinda different.

I know people are talking about his lack of head coaching experience, but he was groomed to be a head coach under Saban. He ran the defense, make no mistake about it - it was his baby. I'm sure he and Saban have talked about who will go with him and who will stay.

Bama was lucky to have him for a long time. Not sure where he turns for an offensive coordinator . . . think he looks at Lane?

I wonder if Mel Tucker gets a shot at the def. coordinator job at Bama. Not sure, his reign as the DC with the Bears was pretty bad - yet, he has always been a pretty good DB coach, he improved Bama's DBs this year.

It's his Alma Mater and the only job in the world he would have left Bama for. This is a once in a life time opportunity that you can't just walk away from. This is a big deal.

We were never gonna get Smart if UGA wanted him. No need to be angry about this one.

I'm angry about the whole fiasco that has developed.
Tanner has had longer than anyone to get his shite in order and we're left picking thru the trash for a HC.
It's not okay and it will never be okay with me.

Definitely some positives to Smart as the next DC. He played at UGA, brilliant DC and coached at very successful program for the past 8 years.

But....

Have to admit that no HC experience does give this UGA fan pause... then again, Rich was an OC and he had no HC experience. Hopefully, a much better OC is on the way.

Sorry to see Richt go but it was time for a change. Rich won a lot games but the losses to ranked teams and the way we lost, especially over the past 3 - 5 years was getting very old.

I do hope Smart and the Bama defense can keep their focus on the rest of this run for a Championship. Finish strong at Bama.

Because they're friends. Just like he and Boom. Which is why we'll take Boom off the Gus Bus if we dam well want him.

Not true. Boom does not have the required self control or people skills to be a head coach. Smart acted like a head coach when he was 11. Will it amount to wins? Who knows....but they are not similar risks by any stretch

Hit the nail on the head. I hate to see him go, but knew it was going to happen.
