McCarron will never start an entire season in the NFL. He is just not good enough.

It was a bad throw. Like a really bad throw. I must admit his statline improved considerably while I was being attacked by these Bama posters about my own post history

Kind of went off topic, but he ended up doing well. I have AJ Green on my fantasy team, so I really appreciate that bomb

How'd Mettenberger play today?

I saw it, it was a throw a person who is making their first career start in the middle of a game might make. Either way, he's going to play next week too, so we'll see if he takes anything away from it. But yeah, it was a bad throw.

He had a couple of good ones too.

I don't like Alabama but he played fine. No one expected him to come in and win so he exceeded expectations with how he played even though they lost. Not to mention Cinci only ran the ball for 64 yards so he didn't have much help on the ground.

Plenty of NFL teams would've taken his qb play today. And coming in in that situation in the NFL you're just hoping for "don't be a disaster." A lot of times it is.

I promise you realistic Bengals fans are happy to know they at least have a more capable backup than most teams do. With a week to actually gameplan with AJ's strengths in mind, let's see how he does.

Honestly, I think he played just about how I thought he would play. If he was that good, he would have won the starting job over Dalton in camp. He's solid but, I mean to play in the NFL, you have to be solid.

But in reality, he's just a backup for now and nothing today made me believe he could be anything more than that. Feel free to downvote but, that is my honest opinion.

Peyton Manning threw 3 interceptions and 1 TD in his first game.

I'm not saying that AJ is in the same league as Manning, but this was AJ's first game that's not garbage time.

22/32 280yds 2TDs 2inc. with a completion rate of 68.8% is pretty good.

I agree with most of what you're saying. The only way his career path changes is if Dalton keeps getting hurt and he shows a little more caution. His second INT was a worse throw IMO. Into triple coverage over the receiver. The first one is more about his deficiencies with his arm strength, the second was just a dumb pass.

But again, he had a lot of good throws too.

You guys can say he had tds, but the last one was garbage time with several defensive backups in the game. He had an okay game. You'll never be able to judge a player's ability on their first game. He could be amazing or a professional backup. I'd be excited if I were a bama fan, just to see him get a chance.

The first one was in the 2nd quarter and was a 50 yard bomb. The second one was in garbage time, but it was still a beautiful throw.

Yes, I'm excited to see him get a chance this week and next week.

Do you even watch or just hate AJ because he's a Bamma. His first TD was in the 2nd quarter, a 66 yard pass to AJ Green.

Well this is the rant so you can choose how he did.

He either sucks and will forever suck because he threw two picks.

or

He did well because he threw two TDs, had 280 yards and completed 70% of his passes in his first NFL game.

Arguing? Someone asked what tools AJ lacked. Given his history in college that I have seen as every draft profile from all 32 NFL teams, arm strength was the overwhelming reason he wasn't considered anything more than a backup. Someone then said his arm strength was NFL level because he successfully threw a fade. I'm not arguing. I'm just pointing out nonsense.

For once I agree with you, his arm strength is an issue. Not about how far he can throw the ball, but how fast he throws it. The ball on the first INT needed more zip, but he was also trying to throw around a jumping DE. A poor choice, and a bad throw.

Let's see if he improves next week.
