re: AJ McCarron is the best quarterback in the country. There is no comparing.

What makes you the best, championships or stats?
I'll answer by playing your scenario out.
Dan had 5 TD passes and zero picks, but still lost. Eli had 2 TD passes and 1 pick, but won the game.
How did Eli win? How was 5 TD not good enough for Dan to win?
What makes you the best is a combination of stats, leadership, poise, a hole lot of stuff you can't quantify, but stats are the best you can get. But, in your scenario, the problem is NOT with the 5-TD-Pass-Throwing-LOSING QB. What do you suppose IS the problem?

ROFL i predicted that Telefawx would be the one pointlessly arguing with everyone for ten pages, but you'll do.

AJ is the greatest thing since swiss cheese (die thread die!)

Say Eli got them down to the goal line and from there the RB took it in for the scores. It hurts Eli's stats compared to Danny, but he still got the job done, and therefore would be my choice for best qb, because he lead his team to victory.
Victory's in my eyes and I cant see, all yall mutha frickas trying to frick with me......Victory....
Bottom line, Some people like stats, and some like championships, which are you?

Dear God.
What we have here is a couple of Gumps who will not accept the possibility that a QB can be the best and still not have hardware. At least LukeSkywalker is trying to make a point.

Why was 5 TDs and NO INTs not good enough to win?
The answer is right there, you're just too Gump to accept it.
Good talking to you.

I promise there is more than a couple gumps that believe this.
You gotta win when it counts. It sucks for a lot of athletes with stats, be to be the best, you gotta win championships.

What if in the championship game Marino threw for 5 TD's, no picks, Eli threw two and a pick, but Eli wins the game, who's team would you rather be on? Eli's or Dannys?

Say this scenario plays out like this for 5 straight years, It would become clear that someone is clutch, and someone is not.
hahaha wtf man? The only thing that is clear is that somebody in Miami's office did a shite job evaluating talent to put around Marino in about 5 consecutive drafts, and a few players on New York's team are picking up the slack evident by Eli's mediocre statline.
Eli and the Giants are a perfect example of a team that got hot at the right moment in 2 Super Bowl runs.

Get this reason shite outta hear. It's all on the 5-TD-No-Pick-throwing QB if they don't win a championship.

That might not be true either, but a championship doesn't make someone better at their position.
Fact is, AJ McCarron is not a household name outside of the southeast. Johnny Manziel is. Tebow was. Cam was.
Being a household name doesn't make someone better at the position either. Who had heard of Joe Flacco in 2007?
As far as your examples,
Cam's yet to make the playoffs, have a winning season, or finish in the upper half in passing efficiency in the NFL.
Tebow is currently unemployed.
JFF has yet to win the SEC West, much less a title.

So you are a stats man. Im gonna start calling people statsmen.
Just answer this question, to be the best at a sport, you gotta have championships, or stats?
Im not saying you cant be great with stats, but we are talking about the best.

Please explain to me what Dan Marino could have done MORE to win the game than have 5-TD throws with ZERO picks. He gave his frickING DEFENSE 35 frickING POINTS TO WORK WITH.
Are you sitting here arguing with me that ALABAMA's DEFENSE IS NOT AS GOOD AS GEORGIAS? DID I REACH THE CORRECT CONCLUSION?
It was a valient effort, and a good troll.

It's not an either-or situation. I object to your false dichotomy.

So, Georgia has a better defense than Alabama?

Hell no.
One the subject of best QB, do they have to be the best at winning championships, or the best stats? I admit, its a tough question.
Posted on 5/30/13 at 1:09 pm to LukeSidewalker
Stats are for teams who cant win championships. it gives them a crutch to stand on. For example, Aggie fans will through stats around all day because there TEAM isn't going to win a championship with JFF QB.

I'm curious how far you'll go with this.
Say the Giants and the 49ers meet up in the NFC Championship this year. Eli finishes the game with 8 touchdowns and over 500 passing yards, but Kaepernick has only 3 touchdowns, an interception, a fumble, but his team still wins by a field goal, winning the NFC championship and sending the 9ers to the Super Bowl.
Which QB is better?
