For TX to be the best "highschool football playing state in America" all of the TX programs sure do seem to be a collection of turds. Maybe we should take that literally. They're good at highschool football.

Yeah too bad that that did not actually happen. Officials decided to change the location of the school to west Texas. Later officials thought Brazos County deserved a college and Texas A&M was created. Good try though.

Pssst. The 1876 Texas Constitution was adopted when there was already a college near Bryan (don't think it was College Station yet, just a railroad depot and a school).
The same Texas Constitution puts the roots of the University of Texas back to 1839, during the days of the Republic of Texas. Long, long before there was such a thing as the Morrill Act, which enabled land-grant colleges like A&M to be started (that federal money is why A&M opened first... Texas was a relatively poor state -- until oil).
