No, but neither does South Carolina.

Screwball most definitely qualifies as a beaker.

Has someone already said "Arkansas has been here a while and they still feel like foreigners"?

Interesting points and I'm trying to think back to the Fall. If I remember correctly it was like 45% Chiefs (completely understandable), 25% Mizzou, 15% KSU, 10% Big XII talk, 2.5% KU talk and 2.5% SEC talk. Just frustrating it didn't get more exposure. You're absolutely right about them only caring if a local team is in it, which I get, I'm just disappointed. I had hoped that KC would have strong Missouri supporters (I disagree that it is a solid Mizzou town) and that would drive SEC discussion like it does in most other places but it did not.

If a local team is not playing they don't care. Super Bowl, other SEC games nothing.

If we're gonna do this, we need to keep our beakers straight, as it is a term that like it or not does carry very special weight with our fanbase. Some sort of special designation probably is in order, such as with on this board if you say "Tigers" its mass confusion but when a post refers to "Yankee Tigers" the arrow is squarely pointed at us.

How should we keep this straight then when referring to beakers of the USCe variety? "slaver beaker?" "hootie beaker?" "such as, the iraq, and such, beaker?" This is a critical decision moving forward, may require a group vote over on the Mizzou board methinks.

Pretty much. But again, with the Chiefs, it emphasizes that the problem is not that the region is basketball-obsessed and doesn't care about football *as a sport*. KC is definitely overly provincial in its sports coverage, no argument from me on that, but it likes football just fine. Chiefs fans are some of the best, loudest, most loyal in the league.

The coverage of other SEC teams is a very delicate matter for KC media because its extremely polarizing. Mizzou fans and people on the Missouri side will love it, but people in the area who are fans of kansas, K-State, Iowa State or the Oklahoma schools absolutely hate it. Remember, ku's hurt feelings are still so raw that they cancelled a 100+ year old rivalry with Mizzou just because the SEC move infuriated them so much. When you talk about SEC sports generally in the Atlanta or Nashville newspapers, pretty much the entire readership will be interested, yes there's ACC people in there too in Atlanta but in terms of raw numbers SEC fanbases are a majority. In Kansas City, ku alumni have about a 60% to 40% majority over Mizzou alumni in terms of how many reside in the KC metro area, and that's not even factoring in K-State or other schools.

I think with time, as Mizzou is in the SEC longer and longer, interest by KC in other SEC games among the common fan will start to grow. For now though, just discussing the SEC in general is likely to make 50% of KC media's readers or listeners flat out turn it off/stop reading, and the media just can't risk that.

How about "poorly educated southern trash beaker" so that we could use the easy (and quite catchy) acronym: "P.E.S.T. beaker".

I very much approve of your suggestion. PEST it is!

You will always compete, but I have a hard time seeing you ever winning!

Not hating, just a neutral observation.

That is not what I said, are you slow or something?

I like and respect Mizzou, but I think you just have too much to overcome to win the SEC. Sorry, it is just what I think!

Trends can be misleading, and I believe is possible you can win the SEC within the next 10 years, It is just not very likely.
