Mention the State of Arkansas and Arky State is the first thing that comes to mind 
Plus, more fans refer to Mississippi State as State more than MSU, so your argument is invalid.

I'll take that bet. I was born in Michigan and have a ton of family still there. Michigan State is referred to as Michigan State outside of Michigan. In-state they are referred to as State. No one calls it MSU.
