Doesn't matter if you can stop the run if teams can just pass at will.

Hence the reason so much emphasis was put on disruptive DEs. Any offense will pass at will when the QB has all day to pass. Daniels, Lawson, and Monty should help in that area.

Are you intentionally so obtuse? The coaching staff was dissolved for a reason.

Ellis always has a good run defense, but Auburn's problem is in the secondary. Doesn't matter if you can stop the run if teams can just pass at will.

Rhoads will end up somewhere good. He's taken Iowa state to 3 bowls in 4 years (they had 9 total before him) and is putting together a good recruiting class.

i think the AU defense will be much better this year. USCe stats the years before Ellis arrived were bottom of the SEC. once he got there they went up to the top half and remained. He also had a good stint as the defensive co at Bama years ago. The thing IMO he's very good with is TFL/negative plays.

What may be more impressive, or more depressing for Auburn fans, is the sorry excuse for a defense that was fielded in the year after, in 2009. It was amazing how bad the defenses were under Gene Chizik, Ted Roof, and Brian Van Gorder.

2010 wasn't all that bad, good run D for the most part.

but 2011 and 2012.... total crap. I think that is the first time in my life where I've seen them have a truly horrible defense two years in a row.
