A month later, when the university hadn’t complied, Mr. Johnson showed he was a man of his word. He essentially declared war against his own alma mater and launched a barrage of public-records requests. He has filed more than 75 such requests since January. The thousands of pages of records he obtained reveal numerous unflattering details about the University of Florida, including pornography purchases by a top administrator and improper spending on a new presidential house.

I hope this doesn't turn into a flame thread because I believe this kind of thing goes on at every university. My problem is that all of this coming to light is all about "I gotcha" and not an actual attempt to improve situations. We will find dirt on individuals and use it to condemn but never is assitance offered to help improve situations.

That is fascinating. The whole article is very good. I hope people take the time to read it. Amazing the kind of information that's out there.

That sumbitch looks ruthless. I bet he gets a shite ton of business from all this, too. If I were in the area and in trouble, he'd be the first person I called.

I think that's the larger point of the article. It focuses on the issues at Florida, but most large university systems probably have similar issues.

I have no problem with this. It's sad it takes a rogue insider to file FOI requests instead of the press. Colleges have become bloated bureaucratic institutions that are far too insular. They no longer care about educating students as long as they win research grants and football games. Politicians aren't going to do anything as long as they get their free tickets and scholarships for their friends and families.

So a two part response to this thing...

1) College athletes commit crimes and the universities bend over backwards to cover it up. Water is wet.

2) The lawyer didn't get paid and now he wants his money and will blackmail the university into paying him. Water is wet.

What about this didn't people already know? When we get to the meat of the article, Calloway having his hearing presided over by a former UF athlete and having the deck stacked heavily in his favor, all of a sudden we're getting quotes from a different attorney. Nothing said about that from Ol Huntley. In fact, this guy argues that kicking Calloway out of his dorm room and making him take online classes was "unfair".

I upvoted and laughed.

Now I'm feeling a little dirty and guilty. The daily yin-yang of the rant.

Maybe he'll start getting hired to do this to other universities. They do really need to be cleaned up. Accountability would be good for the sports and universities.

True leadership would do an audit now, and every year, being proactive. But we know none of that exists in today's landscape.

I hope that is what UF has done or this encourages.

Huntley has plenty of money and this is just him being pissed off and some of the pussies that are in control and acting like Nazis. If you peel back the layers, you will find administrators who are self-serving and petty at any university. Florida is no different. I am sure we need a good cleansing.
