THIS Motherfricker caused all the damn investigations
Nah, the fact that yall were beating Texas so much created a focus from state media (most of whom are Texas Exes) which then lead to a desire for real punishment from the investigations when SMU wouldn't back down.
You can see the same sort of shite happening to Baylor today, but they are rounding the wagons and refusing to cave to the media pressure too. We will see how it works out.

I know that the win @ Texas started it. But the paper wars is what blew the lid off everything. Bayless would have never went looking if there was no media war.
Baylor has an advantage, they aren't in the Metroplex, the Statesman or Chronicle do not care about them.
The strangest one was Tech, why they ever told on themselves about their "classes" was stupid. I bet people would have left them alone. They weren't hurting anyone in the nuclear wasteland. Plus schools do not turn each other in like they used to in the good ol days of the Southwest.

Their recruits come from those places though. What is different for Baylor is:
1. Local newspapers in general don't matter that much, national organizations matter more. With that said I do think ESPN's Baylor coverage over the rape issues seems like them protecting a large LHN investment. Very slanted.
2. The NCAA isn't as powerful as it was then, so there is less to fear
3. Baylor is guaranteed an X Amount of Big 12 money, so the idea of hurting them financially with something like a TV ban is out of the question. It would hurt every Big 12 team too.
4. Baylor hasn't tasted success in so long they are more desperate to keep it. They have invested a lot of money that depends on that success continuing.

You're still pissed because Dickerson didn't give back the aggie Trans Am.
I like SMU. No hard feelings there. Want them in the SEC.

Why? Don't you have enough easy victories playing Miss Stake and Arkansas yearly?

To the school more than the football team. That is what made it so tough, they dismantled enrollment, giving, and academics.
SMU was doing no worse than anyone else at the time. I think the stuff OU got in trouble for and what UH was doing was worse. Also there were schools such as Washington who did the same thing and got only 2 years.

I was born and raised in Dallas and live there now. I almost went there out of high school. I've always liked SMU.

I could not get into SMU being out of state with my SAT and they would not accept my ACT.
Due to what I wanted as a career when SMU got banned I knew not to attempt to go there. I did not want and my family would not allow me to go to Arkansas.
My grandpa wanted me to go to SWT, but at the time I had no idea how cool San Marcos was. So I ended up at SMS due to family friends and connections.

San Marcos is pretty cool.

Worst thing the NCAA has ever done. SMU would be a great addition to the SEC.
SMU in the SEC would fricking rock.
A pod of A&M/SMU/LSU/Arkansas in a 16 team league would be perfect.

2 huge problems that SMU has to ever get in the SEC
Baseball
Texas, those hippies/idiots down in Austin would make it a living hell for aTm in funding so that aTm would not support SMU coming in. You have the Republic's two biggest cities basically in SEC hands, there is no way they will allow that politically in Austin.

If baseball was the only thing blocking SMU they would find a way to get a team with quickness.
Really the only reason Texas wouldn't want any other Texas based schools to join the SEC would be if they wanted to end up there themselves. However, if the Big 12 was collapsing I don't think the SEC would even be one of their top 3 most desirable options. IMO it would be Pac 12, Big 10, independence in that order.

They can't do shite to us anymore. We have a lot of political power in the state, and we now have national organizations reporting on our program instead of only local ones.
We are free at last, free at last.
But poor Baylor on the other hand...
