For sure. Y'all haven't been high on these guys recently. I think the bigger issue here is the perception around TAMU football though.

Agree completely but at the end of the day TAMU has a negative perception right now. Sumlin seemingly has no control over his program.

Also blows my mind that high profile team's coaches feel the need to voice their opinions on twitter so often. I said the same when Bielema was blasting Wisconsin fans on twitter a few years back. Just, why? It quite literally can not do anything but harm you and you lose all ability to control the narrative.

Bert brings a lot of good things to the program but yeah, you are going to get a couple of borderline erotic type comments from him each season. Still its an upgrade compared to how Petrino acted and about the same as some of the goofy things Nutt did and said while he was here.

I'm guessing we just like our coaches to be slightly off kilter here at Arkansas.

As for the Aggies, they are quickly losing the perception battle for the program.

Yep.

It's probably time for some new blood at the helm. The current regime has been stagnant, and now this.

Idk how you can continue to pretend to be happy TAMU is paying Sumlin.

I don't see how we have any option that involves not paying him. I am not happy about that, I am happy we can afford a highly paid coach.

IIRC his buyout clause if TAMU terminates is through 2019. Does that buyout decrease each year?

If a coach's signed contract doesn't constitute a real "commitment", why the hell should a teenager's word be considered one?

Because the kids should decide based on the universities and the opportunities those universities give them, not what coaches are there. In theory at least.

Interesting choice of words here. What leverage does a university have on a kid that hasn't signed a LOI? Hint: next to none if they're an elite recruit

Absolutely none if they act desperate.

Put simply, a coach that is living in a world of double standards should probably recognize that the so called loyalty that he's upset that kids don't have, he has already demonstrated a lack thereof upon leaving his previous job, so probably should keep his mouth shut. There was no upside to the comments, so why make them?

Nothing probably, but Moorehead is a young coach. He is still learning the ropes, everyone makes mistakes.

We are talking about SEC football. Not many kids make decisions based on who has the better Petroleum Engineering program. And for a football player, what coaches are there is one in the same as the opportunities a university provides.

I don't think so. Even worse, if it's like his first contract:

quote:

The UNIVERSITY agrees to pay the applicable amount of liquidated damages set forth in this Section 5. 3 with sixty (60) days of such termination.

Buyout is remaining salary. Naturally, that means it decreases every year.

I don't see how he lasts past 2017. Yalls depth chart is thin, to say the least going into 2017.

I am coming around to that conclusion as well. The only way out is a better than expected year next year followed by a better than expected recruiting class.

In a way its kinda nice though. Sumlin has been here four years and we still don't know if he is any kind of long term solution or a flash in the pan. After this season the answer will be obvious.

2017 will be bad. The following starters will be gone:

Trevor Knight
Josh Reynolds
Avery Gennesy
Jermaine Eluemunor
Myles Garrett
Daeshon Hall
Shaan Washington
Armani Watts
Donovan Wilson
Justin Evans

and likely Ricky Seals-Jones as well

You don't think Speedy Noil will leave early to go to the pros ?

Noil will more likely get kicked off the team than go pro.

So does Moorehead's twitter tirade mean that aggy will no longer pursue any recruit that is committed to another school, loyalty is a big thing to him after all.

Win Big Games first. Then Get Recruits

Signing day is in Feb. Plenty of time to impress the kids...

And I don't care if we lose players over firing Spavital. He couldn't gameplan, so what does it matter if he can recruit?

Spavital couldn't gameplan, playcall, or adjust.
