Not a mid year fire though. You wait till the end of the year with a guy who won the SEC.

I wouldn't mind retaining Kodi Burns, Rodney Garner, Travis Williams, and maybe Wesley McGriff.

Nobody can deny their position groups haven't improved tenfold over last season (WR, DL, LB, DB).
100% of this team's problems lay with Malzahn and Lashlee and their mismanagement of the offense and god awful play calling.

New coach may want to clean house, but those are solid assistants and would save us money. 2 of them, Burns and Williams, are young and upcoming and part of the next wave of superstar position coaches, like Dameyune Craig and Travaris Robinson are now. It'd be a damn shame to let two alumni at the beginning of their careers use their talents to help other teams.

How many coaches did Chizix keep from Tubs? How many did Gus keep from Chiziks staff?

New HC will want his own staff.

I am not being a prick but is Aunurn still paying a former coach now? That is too many ex coaches on the payroll unless that comes from different funding.

wide receiver coach Kodi Burns ($350,000 salary per season)

I went to high school with Kodi and played football with him. Glad to see he's doing well these days.

Would be shocked if a guy like Burns stays. Not that he is bad or anything but new coaches tend to clean house and he doesn't have much experience.

This is exactly why coaches should have 1 Million $ salaries and big bonus opportunities for success.
What competent agent would allow for their clients to agree to that?

I agree.

Unless you have the "right" guy.

JJ will say, "Gus did a great job. We need to build on his success. Let's welcome Mark Mangino to Auburn."

Hey Mangino was a hell of a coach. He's pretty rough around the edges and he could also drop dead of s major heart attack a at any second.

Gus had a ton of luck to win the sec a few years ago. Not takin away from yalls magical season but I don't think he's got what it takes to sustain long term success. Auburns to solid of a program to be so up and down. Imo. No disrespect intended

Tennessee would owe Butch Jones $10 million if they fire him after the season when he loses to Florida, Bama, etc. Less Miles is 13 Million. Mark Stoops 12 Million...

Its the cost of doing business
Saban's buyout $0.00

Not for everyone these days.

Saban's buyout is $0 for him to leave to go to another program. That is a true "buyout". What everyone else is referring to a "buyout" is not what is in contracts that the coach will have to pay to get out of his contract but rather what the school will have to pay to fulfill the contract.

Les' buyout goes down to $6-7M after this season.

The buyout amounts for these coaches are ridiculous though.

If we do have to go bargain hunting for a coach after this season I vote for P.J. Fleck, the coach at Western Michigan.

That's a plus. There'd be no need for a Mangino buyout.

JJ is a nice guy. Attends Church regularly, but he has not spent his career learning to deal with the business or administration of sports related businesses. Instead he has stayed at AU and become a yes man to power brokers and the coterie that basically run the program.

Where is the airport guy? "We need a leader not a loser!"

13,795,000 in payments the school's athletics department would be responsible for if Malzahn is terminated

Is it the Athletic Department?

I think in MS the coaches salaries are relatively modest from the State (Board of Higher Learning) like $400,000 per year or so. I thought the rest came from the private Foundation.

But I could be wrong. And of course it may be different in Alabama.

This may have already been posted,

A buyout is what the coach pays the school if he leaves for another school.
A payoff is what the school pays a coach they run off.
