But the real question, for you LSU fans: do you care about said rivalry? I hear you offering your unsolicited opinions on this subject often. So I'm curious if this is one game y'all all have circled on your calendars?

I remember seeing a stat during a game several years ago where CBS or whomever was broadcasting the game showed the cumulative score for each team over the course of the rivalry. They were almost dead even as well. Truly a game I always try to watch.

After the last several blowouts, Georgia now leads the points race 1964-1828.

As tight as the series is, its not rare for the winning team to win by a large margin.

Of Georgia's 55 wins in the series, only 23 were decided by 7 points or less. Twenty of Georgia's wins over Auburn have been by more than two touchdowns.

Of Auburn's 55 wins in the series, only 20 were decided by 7 points or less. And 18 were decided by more than two touchdowns.

When Georgia wins, we average winning by a little more than 14 points. When Auburn wins, they win by a little more than 12 points on average.

So while the tight contests might be the most memorable (and there have been a lot of those), those are actually not the norm in this series.

There was one year around the mid-2000s where going into the game the total points scored for each team was a difference of like 20 points. It was insane. Granted there's been a couple blowouts since then to get it up higher (although still remarkably close), but if someone has the time and could take the current totals and backtrack I'd LOVE to see it.

Always my favorite game of the year; love the rivalry. I enjoy beating Tech the most, and hate losing to them the most, but with all my old friends who went to Auburn, it's always a fun time.

Agreed. I think Georgia v. Auburn is one of the most underrated rivalries in the entire country. It doesn't get the hype that some of the others do, but its always a fun time.

Maybe its that both programs know its a rivalry and there isn't one side trying to hype it into something its not.

Auburn probably has the largest alumni presence in Atlanta outside of UGA. So that makes this rivalry special. That and the long history.

If Auburn and Georgia could ever meet in Atlanta for the SEC CG, it could in time boost the rivalry to the most games played of any rivalry in the country. Wisconsin v. Minnesota sits at 124 total contests... 6 ahead of Auburn and Georgia. Auburn and Georgia need to meet in Atlanta 6 times to tie it. I would have thought we'd have seen the Aubs in Atlanta by now, but somehow in 23 years it still has not happened. So it may take awhile to get to six.

Even the Georgia players were angry that Auburn wasn't credited with the win-

quote:
Here’s their halfback, last name of Young, talking to the Journal: “Auburn won the game by hard work and should have been given it. It was very distressing that the game should have been called when it was, and no one stands more ready to accord the men from Alabama a victory—a clean, hard-fought-for victory—than I and other members of the Georgia eleven.”

Oh what has happened to our society since then? There use to be a thing called integrity. And it was more important that winning. Those days are long gone.

I will say, though. I went to Auburn because I was doing engineering, and that Georgia game the year they went undefeated and still didn't play for the title was insane. There wasn't an inch of real estate (including the fricking streets and front yards) that wasn't occupied by a vehicle of some kind.

None of the big 6 inter-division rivals have met in Atlanta, strangely enough.

Also, Mu/Kansas and texas/atm don't play annually anymore so we are going to jump ahead a few spots in the "all times played" list here in the next couple years.

Well this yearly rivalry needs to end so LSU doesn't have to play Florida every year.

I gotcha. You know how slow I am sometimes, WG!

That's an interesting statistic!

Doesn't it sort of make sense that permanent rivals haven't met? When those teams meet every year, it guarantees a loss for one of them. It is surprising that it hasn't happened, but the chances are probably lower than you would think.

I agree with that, but there have been 6 rematches where a regular season matchup met again in the SECCG.

It simply had "55-55-8" as the thread title. Then one of the mods took the first sentence and applied to the thread title. Not a big deal but I thought this was America lol.
