There is no denying Chavis is a great DC. Only problem is, between him and Brick Haley, they are terrible at evaluating talent and lazy at recruiters. This is a fact. A&M needed Chavis more than LSU. LSU has the talent every year to run a simple base defense as opposed to A&M who is outmatched in talent the majority of games.

Derek Mason still has a lot to prove as a head coach, but he's a top 5 d coordinator in the country let alone the SEC.

A&M started with no talent so I wonder how this will go lol

Our roster this year is the most talented one we have had in decades.

A&M's defense allowed fewer points per game last year compared to ole miss and will be considerably better this year.

we're losing 2 DEs and a DB, those are our deepest positions aside from WR.

You do understand that this is a hallmark of a Chavis defense?

This isnt true. LSU didnt want him.

Actually Les has said on multiple occasions he wanted to keep Chavis. Alleva was the cause of it all with his "Les Miles Clause."

Maybe, but a lot can happen before then.

The adults in the room know Alleva was planning an exit strategy (from the Les Miles era) and was hoping that by running off the DC and demanding unreasonable contract terms he could hinder Les enough to be able to fire him and make his "legacy hire."

He failed, and it worked out for Les and LSU in the end long term.

I'm content to allow Johnny Jones to go down as Alleva's legacy.

he’s on the cusp of turning Texas A&M into one of the toughest defenses in the country.

you aggies are always "on the cusp" of something. Chavis knows his shite. give him the players and he's one of the best. the problem, of course, is getting the players. I saw what he did to LSU's defense, personnel wise after he inherited a full cupboard and let it slide away. he's got a coupla damn good DL guys now but give him time and he'll have his undersized 3 star guys in place.
