What Defense do you like the most?

I really like our 4-2-5 personally because to me speed kills but also we have been lucky to have Tony Conner that can play our Huskey role. Also with teams like our O we force 3-4s and 4-3s to change their D to fit our spread taking them out of their normal base D.

What are your thoughts?

4-2-5 is what most teams are running to combat the spread.

What about the 46 or 5-2?

You might want to add more specifics to your question. You may not get the answer you are looking for from A&M fans.

Yeah I don't think there is really such thing as a base defense anymore. I know Bielema would prefer to run a 4-3 because that's what he came up in but we pretty much live in 4-2-5 personnel outside of playing Bama and LSU.

As well as the other team's offense.

Unless a team's "base" is a 4-2-5 or 3-3-5, they are running nickel formations at least 70% of the time now. The nickel formations have become the new "base" defense.

LSU will be running a lot more 2-4-5 than 3-4 looks this year. Should be fun.

Florida basically exclusively ran a nickel last year

The correct answer is it depends on the down and distance. Many defensive quads move in and out of various formations frequently depending on the situation and the offense they are up against.

I'm NCAA I run a 3-4/4-2-5 primary with multid looks and formations. Even throw in some 3-3 in there to help because I can get creative with bltizes and drop backs.

Needless to say my defense is most effective with a monster D-Line.

In junior high we ran a 5-3-3 and went undefeated.

I would like to see more of that scheme outside of teams playing LSU.

And this is why I like the 4-2-5. You are able to handle different situations with the same defense on the field which I think is an advantage. In some situations we go to the 5-2 but we can normally stick to a 4-2-5. Be it a spread or I formation run team people stay in their postion.

I'm a 4-3 guy, but with our team this year I think 3-4 is the way to go for sure.

5-2 for the run and 4-2 against the pass.
