Just because you choose to ignore history doesn't make it unimportant or wrong. I'll add you to the dumbass list.

Y'all are idiots. I love Texas and currently live here but perhaps the raison detre for Texas was to preserve the oppressive institution of slavery. Man yall are terrible.

No need to disparage the valiant young men that died NOT because of racist reasons. The vast majority of them nor their families ever owned slaves. My own great grandfather was a Sgt. in the 2nd Arkansas infantry, Co. G., along with three of his brothers (my great great uncles). Among other places, they fought at Chickamauga. Only two of them made it home from the war, one of which was my Great Grandfather. One brother died in a field hospital not far from the Chickamauga battelfield. Another is unknown as to what became of him, probably died unidentified on some battlefield and buried in a mass grave somewhere.
I am proud of them. Not because I think they were fighting to protect slavery (liberals will swear that's what the war was all about), but they were fighting to protect our home and family.

Perhaps the reason for Texas was it was there and we wanted it.

I have ancestors with CSA Texas cavalry tombstones. What exactly do you think I'm crying about?

You do realize Texas has been voted most racist state in America according to many polls?

I recognize that its hypocritical, and im completely ok with that. I didn't say it was any different from the revolutionary war.
I just hate the confederacy. Its as simple as that. I don't need a legitimate reason to do so.

My 3x great grandfather was a peaceful farmer who served as a Confederate Officer.
His grandfather was a Revolutionary War veteran that served in South Carolina's Spartan Brigade for no pay, no rations, and he provided his own arms.
Your statement could not be more wrong for many reasons.
The winners of wars write the history and if you want the truth you will have to work for it.
How would you feel if you were a blacksmith and the Union Army came through your town and was looking for you to forcibly take you away from your family to work for them? They did that to my ancestors and that was minor compared to other things they did.

So now you're pulling the "I can say whatever I want card, cause merica". Come on dude, Thousands upon thousands of young men died for the single belief they were protecting their home and way of life. What would you do to protect what is yours?
My ancestor was Stonewall Jackson's Engineer Officer and was killed in the same volley that would later take Jackson's life. His uniform hangs in VMI to this day. Was he a slave owner, no. Was he a racist bigot, no. I have read his journal and he and all his men believed this was the pinnacle for their way of life. Stop with the garbage, if you haven't poured years into civil history, bow the F out.

THAT is every bit as bigoted and ignorant as anything you could compare it to.

Then you should have just said that and been done with it. Instead you make out everyone who helped the confederacy a racist and akin to terrorists when in fact you couldn't be farther from the truth. You are just making yourself look like a bigot.

OP: I hate to call out a fellow Ag here but you are a bit out of line here. The "Memorial Day" that we now celebrate has Confederate roots in a day known as Decoratuon Day.
At one time most cemeteries were located at churches, especially in the rural South including Texas. On Decoration Day the cemetery was cleaned and beautified and graves of Confederate soldiers were adorned with flowers. This became what we now know as Memorial Day. Although, if you were from rural Texas you would know that there would be dinner on the grounds at church, and a good cleaning of the cemetery would happen that weekend.
So, don't speak about what you don't know because the Memorial Day that we celebrate IS the Confederate Memorial Day.
Like it or not, Texas was a major part of the Confederacy and the founders of Texas A&M had deep ties to the Confeseracy. And while no major battles were fought in Texas, we suffered the same oppressive fate as our neighbors during "reconstruction."
