Shitty leadership of the athletic department and basketball program?

^^^^^THIS^^^^^

HIGHLY SHITTY LEADERSHIP above the head coaching level is Mizzou's real tradition for 50 years. Super few P5 level people.

The absolute worse was Barbara Uehling, Chancellor 1978-87. She disliked sports and cut athletic budgets. She wanted to make Mizzou the Harvard of the midwest. Another one of her big things was campus beautification. It's taken decades to recover from her crap. Most of you SEC folks don't know about this.

Just look at the records of our teams during the 60s and 70s. We were pretty good.

We had one AD that got lucky hiring Pinkel. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut. This same AD KILLED, KILLED our basketball program. (Alden)

I never had ties to Alden but he didn’t exactly have a bad record. I was at Mizzou during the first Pinkle and Quin Snyder years. The hoops hype was out of this world(don’t know who wasn’t at the games) and we were starting to actually win some football games too. I remember beating Nebraska for the first time in a decade or more. Not only that, but we got a great new arena and later got into the SEC. They weren’t bad times. Even bball rebounded after imploding for a bit.

But I would take it every year for 11 wins in football.

Every 2 years adding up to 11 wins? Odd

Tenner 11 win seasons in the last 20 years=1 (2022)

Mizzou 11 win seasons in the 20 years=4 (2207, 2013, 2014 & 2023)

10 win seasons while I am here, Tenner total of 3 & Mizzou 6

Norm probably put a hex on the program on his way out.

Where does Norm rank on the list of best coaches to never make a F4?

I would say it started with the Poop Swastikas but it started before that.

I was eleven in 1994 but barely remember the excellence of the Big 8. I just know it was good, quality basketball then. Missouri was no slouch then. Ole Norm!

As a student, I got to watch Norm and Billy Tubbs go head-to-head from Section A in the Hearnes Center. Two old school, hardnosed coaches. Lou Henson at Illinois was another big rival. Good times.

I still remember feeling dirty after the refs gave us major help to win one of those games. It was most of the way through the season, and Big 8 wanted a perfect season for us.
Think it was against K-State--definitely a weird one to provide that much challenge at the time.
