I agree he isn't a hero to a lot of the fans. However, don't forget the contingent of fans stopping to get their picture taken with him and his autograph on Bourbon St. in 2011.

I know A LOT of great Alabama fans. Very classy people that are fun to talk football with. Living in Alabama, they are everywhere and are my friends and this time of the year they are always asking me about LSU and we make our predictions. It is great. I even watch games with them.
But, the other portion - whatever you want to call them (and they are EVERYWHERE) - are the worst fans in all of sports. The most obnoxious people that you could ever want to be around and almost completely classless. Every decent Alabama fan and/or Alabama graduate I know is embarrassed by them. And no, you don't have to be an Alabama graduate to be a decent Alabama fan - you just have to be a decent human being.
There is a portion of the Alabama fanbase that is complete trash and they give the rest of the Bama fans a bad name, which really is unfair.
Most of the Bama fans on this board I would place in the decent/good fan category, by the way, with several exceptions, of course.

I'm not saying all or most of you do it. But there are tons of stories and pictures out there of people posing with updyke and getting his autograph. Hence, I won't blame you too much for the small contingent of truly criminal nutjobs in the fanbase, but the troubling aspect is the larger (though admittedly minority) contingent that enables them.
It would be a lot better if the crazies knew that the fan base would shun them if they did something nuts. I just don't know that that perception is there when it comes to UA.

You say this because you are an LSU fan living in Alabama. My Aunt who lives in Lafayette has the same things to say about LSU fans.

While I don't want to give LSU fans too much credit, SEC fans would probably vote overwhelmingly for Alabama having the worst fan base. I'd be surprised if it didn't win nationally.
Yes, every fan base has a trashy element. But as another Bama poster stated, yalls is larger and more extreme.

its crazy how most of everyone that comes to Tuscaloosa for a gameday has nothing but great things to say about their experiences, OOC fans especially.

Most of my UA buddies acknowledge that their fan base is on a different level and mock those fans with the best of them.
Just embrace it and have fun with it. You're still going to win a lot of games in the process.

TTown is a great time, the slopes are packed and most fans are great. It still doesn't change the fact that y'all have a shite ton of crazy trashy fans. The good news for bama is most of them can't afford the gas to get to ttown on a actual game day. They still lurk in the shadows though just waiting for their chance to become the next bama martyr.

We also have the most fans in the SEC. Chances of having a shithead fan are greater when you have a larger population. When I lived in VA, 1/4 of the bama fans at the game get-together were bandwagon fans that have never stepped on campus. Some never traveled to the state.
