He's no Carlton Davis, that's for sure.

Exactly. He's respected and on the preseason All SEC team.

Only problem is there's not a whole lot of depth in that Bama secondary

Ehh..there's some talent on the bench it just isn't all quite seasoned.

Hootie Jones will be the third safety, seen tons of playing time
Levi Wallace has seen a lot of time at corner

Then you get towards the guys that haven't played a ton but are in their second year in the program. Shyheim Carter, Nigel Knott, Trevon Diggs, Jared Mayden, Aaron Robinson...all 4 star recruits. Then you have the freshmen, Xavier Mckinney, Daniel Wright, and Kyriq McDonald. Then there's the wildcard guys like Keaton Anderson and Deionte Thompson.

Regardless, that's 12 players in the secondary that have been in the system for at least a year and were all very highly recruited. It would really hurt to lose Minkah or Ronnie from a leadership standpoint, but from a talent perspective we will be set on the back end

LSU's is very unproven outside of Donte Jackson.
That is true. But Jamal Adams and Tre White were unproven when their freshman seasons started. They did ok. Delpit and Tolliver will be on this list at year end.

And yet he still ran for 1130 yards less than a year after bending his knee backwards.

It's a preseason honor, let a living superhuman have his due.

Our pass rush will probably take a step back (still should be good, just not as insane as it was) so I'm glad we have so much experience on the back end.

It's not a career achievement award. Or based on potential showed 2 years ago before a career changing injury.

I don't know enough to assess Alabama's secondary. but I do know their front 7 last year would've made any secondary look like all-stars.

I can tell you this - by the end of the season, teams like lsu, florida and auburn will have lots to say about DB's on the all-sec team. without denigrating Alabama's talent at all.

No way Chubb should be 1st team based on his 2016. He hasn't had a 1st team all conference caliber season since 2014.

"Since 2014" sure does sound a lot longer ago than it really is considering it was only 2 seasons. One in which he snapped his freaking leg in half but was averaging over 8 yards per carry before that.

STILL came back and rushed for almost 1,200 with a crap OL, sharing the load with Sony Michel.

I don't think anyone would have much a problem saying Alabama has the best DB unit on paper this preseason. LSU's is very unproven outside of Donte Jackson.

That Tolliver kid is pretty good

No one knows him because no team ever throws at him. He is never in a play.

No problem with this list or Bama being shown respect in the secondary but those unproven LSU DBs will be household names by mid season
